Sr. Cloud Engineer

Summary of This Role

Responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the cloud infrastructure to support the service delivery of applications developed.  We are seeking a candidate with a strong background in cloud engineering, DevOps, and containerized microservices, coupled with a passion for innovation and excellence. A self-starter who can advise on cloud technology options, products, cost, to assist in making where needed improvements in our cloud environments.

What Part Will You Play?

• Align cloud strategies with business goals, to provide scalable architecture environments, selecting appropriate services and maintain comprehensive documentation.
• Utilize GCP services such as Compute Engine and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), plus manage Identity and Access Management (IAM) policies effectively. 
• Develop and deploy infrastructure using Terraform, which includes managing Terraform state files and create reusable modules. 
• Integrate Terraform with CI/CD pipelines for seamless deployments. 
• Provision, monitor, manage and optimize container, GCP and GKE resources. 
• Implement effective monitoring solutions to ensure system reliability and to optimize cloud costs effectively. 
• Maintenance CI/CD pipelines to streamline IAC workflows and drive automation around these areas.
• Utilize tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, and Argo CD for automation and efficiency. 
• Secure cloud infrastructure and data against unauthorized access, to include ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and conduct regular audits to identify risks.
• Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks, deployment errors, and technical issues in Kubernetes environments, plus participate in an On-Call rotation to provide emergency support when needed.
• Stay updated on the latest features, updates, and best practices in Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies.
• Support the efforts for cross-training and collaboration with other members of the team. Develop shared knowledge of leveraged tools on the team, eliminating single points of knowledge and dependencies
• Work with management and technical peers to establish support technical policies and procedures.  Continuously provide procedures to operational teams and work with these teams to ensure details are up-to-date, accurate and understood

What Are We Looking For in This Role?

• Bachelor's Degree, Computer Science, other majors considered. additional experience in lieu of a degree.
• Minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in IT working on the various items related to this Role and the desired Skills were looking for.

What Are Our Desired Skills and Capabilities?

• A seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization; resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways.
• Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise.
• Proven experience in designing cloud architectures, managing infrastructure, controlling costs, and ensuring security compliance.
• Terraform expertise in developing infrastructure as code (IaC), creating reusable modules, managing state files, and integrating with CI/CD pipelines.
• Proficiency in designing and implementing Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) workflows pipelines to enhance IAC operation efficiency.
• Strong scripting skills in Bash and Python for automation tasks.
• Familiarity with Linux command-line interfaces (CLI) and system administration tasks.
• Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, routing, subnets, firewalls, and network security.
• Knowledge of securing cloud environments through IAM policies, encryption, access controls, etc.
• Extensive experience deploying, configuring, managing Kubernetes clusters on GCP or other cloud platforms. Must have experience in Rancher, ArgoCD, Helm/Kustomize, Calico/Cilium and Istio.
• Experience using monitoring tools like; Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, for monitoring logging purposes ensuring optimal performance health in Kubernetes environments.
