Job Purpose & Overview

The Global Climate Data Manager, Petcare Innovation will work with a cross-functional team of R&D and Commercial associates to provide support in assessing the climate impacts of our raw materials. This work ensures the link between sustainability objectives and our business decision-making, ensuring that sustainability data is accessible for R&D and strategic sourcing and teams, and enabling lower carbon footprint innovation.

Role responsibilities include raw ingredient Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) analysis, emissions factor development, and supporting supplier sustainability initiatives. The position requires technical knowledge in LCA, experience developing new business processes, as well as strong stakeholder management skills. The ideal candidate will be a data-driven, adaptable critical thinker who can maintain collaborative relationships with our regional teams, global teams, and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

1) Evaluate Supplier LCAs

Responsible for working with active and prospective raw material suppliers to gather and evaluate LCA / carbon footprint data. This includes critically reviewing data against relevant internal and external standards, identifying opportunities for data improvement, and identifying opportunities for impact reduction. The associate must have a foundational knowledge of agricultural and/or manufacturing emissions sources and be comfortable engaging directly with suppliers around data quality requirements.

2) Generate & Validate Emissions Factors

Provide support in creating raw materials emissions factors based on primary and secondary data, leveraging supplier data and internal LCA software. Emissions factors to be generated will range from exploratory figures to guide decision-making to final validated emissions factors used in official climate reporting. The associate must be able to balance speed with rigor in order to deliver reliable figures in a timely manner.

3) Drive Process Efficiency

Internal stakeholder demand for this custom emissions factors has increased dramatically over the past several years. This role will continually pinpoint opportunities for improvement in the request and fulfillment processes around new or improved emissions factors, and will proactively propose new ways of working to streamline communication and expedite delivery.

4) LCA and Carbon Accounting Support

In addition to the primary responsibilities outlined, this role will serve as one of the segment technical experts on LCA and carbon accounting and will be expected to support ad hoc requests related to these topics in accordance with available bandwidth.

Job Qualifications
  • Degree in business, engineering, food science, data science, or a sustainability-related topic

  • 4 years’ experience working in a quantitative data analysis field or discipline, with a focus on environmental sustainability, climate, and/or sustainable sourcing

  • Demonstrated experience evaluating and/or authoring LCAs, with a focus on agricultural or industrial products

  • Working understanding of LCA/climate accounting standards and practices

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to translate key aspects of LCA to various non-sustainability audiences, with patience and creativity

  • Ability to facilitate data driven discussions to influence business strategy and growth

  • Ability to work flexibly with global teams across different time zones

  • Occasional travel may be required
