About the Team

The External Affairs Marketing team represent one of the GSMA’s flagship advocacy programmes. The team works with the mobile industry to tackle some of society’s most significant challenges by building partnerships with governments, international organisations, and the private sector worldwide. Providing a single voice for the mobile industry, the team also seeks to highlight the positive impact mobile technologies and services are having on economies and societies. We work across multiple subject areas including AI, climate, international relations, sustainability and ESG.

The External Affairs team showcase the impact of the mobile industry at many high-level events such as the United Nations General Assembly, the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, W20 and of course across the GSMA’s MWC and M360 series of events.

About the Role

The External Affairs Marketing Manager will work across the team to deliver the strategic marketing priorities of the programme. This includes strengthening the mobile industry’s contribution to a better future for all and promoting their work to policymakers, governments, regulators, international organisations and UN agencies. They will support in delivering these priorities to raise awareness and engage policy influencers and B2B audiences to encourage a positive perception of the mobile industry on a global, regional and in-country level. 


Reporting into the Senior Marketing Manager and working closely with the rest of the global marketing team, the Marketing Manager will consistently deliver high quality communications that are on-message, creative, innovative, and on-brand. 


The successful applicant will also be expected to build strong relationships with internal teams and external agencies to deliver a best-in-class digital experience for our audiences whilst supporting budget management, monitoring quality, reporting on impact and delivering on timelines.


About You

  • Your professional background is in delivering advocacy marketing communications to engage a B2B, government and international organisations audience. As such you will have a demonstrable track record of delivering high quality marketing campaigns targeting different audiences across multiple channels including social media and direct digital channels. 

  • You will have a good understanding of content marketing best practices for web, email and social media, with experience in building emails and building and editing websites using relevant software. It would be ideal if you have knowledge of how to run campaigns that drive website traffic across multiple channels and experience measuring campaign impact. You are able to devise effective marketing delivery plans within limited budgets and manage the execution thereof.

  • You are a conceptual thinker with a flair for engagement and communications who is results focused and is comfortable collaborating and supporting across teams in a complex matrix organisation. You thrive on working within in a small, motivated team with a team first ethos and experience working in an international environment with geographically dispersed colleagues.

  • You will have strong writing skills: messaging and narrative development as well as social media and website copy. You can show where you have been able to support a creative campaign from research and strategy development through to delivery and evaluation.

  • You are proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Google Analytics and WordPress. Knowledge of the mobile industry and the policy and regulatory environment are a desirable.

  • You have experience of supporting high-level events and exhibitions and have the ability to travel, should the role require it.
