INTECON, LLC is seeking a motivated and highly skilled Science and Technology (S&T) Protection Specialist to support AFWERX’s Security Branch (RGOS). This role is responsible for assisting in the development and execution of S&T Protection Plans, conducting security risk assessments, and ensuring the protection of sensitive and classified technologies. The selected candidate will provide technical security guidance and risk mitigation strategies to support AFWERX’s security posture and compliance with DoD and Air Force policies.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Science and Technology (S&T) Protection Specialist will:

  • Assist in S&T Protection Plan development, identifying and validating security requirements to safeguard classified and sensitive technologies.
  • Provide guidance and subject matter expertise to ensure the protection of AFWERX technology and related classified information.
  • Develop and evaluate security risk assessments and analyses for programs, projects, and technology areas, identifying potential threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies, ensuring compliance with Air Force and DoD security standards.
  • Provide security oversight for all aspects of technology control, S&T protection planning, and certification and accreditation (C&A) document development.
  • Serve as a technical security advisor to internal and external stakeholders, offering guidance on protection architecture and best practices.
  • Support technology security reviews, evaluating emerging security threats and countermeasures applicable to AFWERX technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with Air Force security regulations, DoD policies, and cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST, RMF, FISMA).
  • Maintain and update S&T security policies, procedures, and documentation to reflect current threats and mitigation practices.
  • Participate in interagency and DoD working groups, contributing to policy development and implementation strategies for S&T security.
  • Assist with incident response efforts, conducting security impact assessments following security breaches or policy violations.
  • Conduct security training and awareness programs for AFWERX personnel, ensuring compliance with S&T protection requirements.
  • Support AFWERX’s security framework, ensuring alignment with operational security (OPSEC) and counterintelligence (CI) protocols.
  • Provide recommendations for technology safeguards, leveraging best practices in security risk management.
  • Travel as required to support security assessments, technology protection initiatives, and stakeholder engagements.
  • Perform other related duties within the scope of security and technology protection as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Security Studies, Information Assurance, Cybersecurity, Intelligence, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree in Technology Protection, Risk Management, or Homeland Security.

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in technology security, S&T protection, risk assessment, or related fields, preferably in a military, defense, or government setting.
  • Strong expertise in technology security planning, information assurance, and risk mitigation.
  • Experience in developing and implementing security risk assessments, vulnerability management plans, and accreditation processes.
  • Familiarity with DoD security policies, Air Force protection protocols, and classified information handling procedures.
  • Understanding of threat intelligence, counterintelligence, and technology protection strategies.
  • Experience conducting security oversight for classified programs and technology control.
  • Proficiency in technology certification and accreditation (C&A) processes, including NIST RMF and FISMA compliance.
  • Experience providing technical security advisement to leadership, ensuring compliance with protection architecture frameworks.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with security personnel, intelligence officers, and external agencies to strengthen S&T protection measures.
  • Experience supporting cybersecurity initiatives, OPSEC policies, and emerging threat detection strategies.

Certifications and Training

Preferred certifications:

  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
  • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
  • Certified Protection Professional (CPP)
  • DoD 8570.01-M Security+ Certification

Proficiency in:

  • Security risk assessment tools and methodologies
  • Technology protection frameworks (DoD 5200.39, AFMAN 17-1301)
  • IT security compliance standards (NIST, RMF, FISMA, FedRAMP)
  • Threat intelligence tools and techniques

Specialized Training in:

  • Operational Security (OPSEC) and Counterintelligence (CI) principles
  • Security risk management and vulnerability assessments
  • Emerging technology protection and classified data safeguards

Security Clearance

Active Secret Clearance required, with the ability to obtain Top Secret (TS/SCI) if needed.
