Job description

Who are we?

Our mission is to scale intelligence to serve humanity. We’re training and deploying frontier models for developers and enterprises who are building AI systems to power magical experiences like content generation, semantic search, RAG, and agents. We believe that our work is instrumental to the widespread adoption of AI.

We obsess over what we build. Each one of us is responsible for contributing to increasing the capabilities of our models and the value they drive for our customers. We like to work hard and move fast to do what’s best for our customers.

Cohere is a team of researchers, engineers, designers, and more, who are passionate about their craft. Each person is one of the best in the world at what they do. We believe that a diverse range of perspectives is a requirement for building great products.

Join us on our mission and shape the future!

Cohere For AI (C4AI) is the dedicated research arm of Cohere, and our mission is to make progress on fundamental problems in Machine Learning. Our mandate is to imagine the next generation of AI models and to work at the frontier of what is possible. We are a hybrid lab, with both full-time research and engineering staff in addition to an open science initiative that supports collaborative research across institutions and paths of access for independent researchers.

In this role, you will be a pivotal representative of our research lab, driving collaboration and impact across the organization and beyond. Your strategic vision and communication skills will help amplify the lab's research, fostering a culture of collaboration. By building bridges between researchers and various teams, you will ensure our work reaches and influences a diverse range of internal and external audiences, as you contribute to our mission of changing where research happens.

As a Research Executive Partner on the Cohere For AI team, you will:
  • Coordinate and execute on key objectives of the lab including launches, and external initiatives.

  • Build critical internal relationships and foster collaboration across various internal teams, including Communications, Marketing, Government Relations, and Policy.

  • Identify and create opportunities to showcase the lab's research and establish Cohere For AI as a frontier AI research lab within the wider community.

  • Initiate strategy for establishing leadership and a wider presence within the AI ecosystem. Develop and execute strategies to enhance the lab's external partnerships, including conducting introductory calls, evaluating potential collaborations, and managing relationships with external organizations.

  • Own timelines, self-initiate on strategy and coordinate across engineering and ops teams. Jump in to write blog posts, create presentations, or develop communication materials to highlight the lab's research and impact.

  • Facilitate effective communication and knowledge sharing between researchers and other teams, ensuring that research insights are accessible and actionable for various stakeholders.

You may be a good fit if you:
  • Have experience in start-up environments as a Chief-of-Staff or Lead of Operations.

  • Have a strong background in science communication, research, or a related field, with a proven ability to translate complex ideas into accessible and engaging content.

  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

  • Have experience in a strategic role, demonstrating the ability to influence and drive change within an organization.

  • Are passionate about the frontier of what is possible in AI  and have a deep understanding of the research landscape, including emerging trends and best practices.

  • Are a self-starter with a proactive attitude, able to work independently and take initiative to identify and pursue new opportunities.

  • Are able to prioritize tasks, iterate quickly, manage multiple projects, and deliver high-quality work within deadlines.

If some of the above doesn’t line up perfectly with your experience, we still encourage you to apply! If you want to work really hard on a glorious mission with teammates that want the same thing, Cohere is the place for you.

We value and celebrate diversity and strive to create an inclusive work environment for all. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are committed to providing equal opportunities.
