Network Architect
The UDT Network Architect assists the Principal Architect and Engineering teams through thought leadership, technical training, direct implementation, and ongoing administration of advanced network and security services. This role defines and develops standards in cooperation with both Engineering and Management. This individual plays a key role in shaping our managed services provider (MSP) network, acting as both a technical leader and an escalation point for complex issues. As a thought leader, the Network Architect will ensure that the MSP network and services are scalable, secure, and optimized for both current and future needs.
Responsibilities:
- Lead in researching, analyzing, designing and implementing network technologies that will address customer’s needs and can accommodate scalability, security and redundancy requirements. Includes designing highly complex custom approaches to delivering WAN, Internet and Security services.
- This position has an active role in network implementation and network management including testing, configuring devices and setting policy standards. Responsible for setup, maintenance and documentation of current network infrastructure.
- Supports the Principal Architect and Engineering teams through technical leadership and mentoring of Senior Engineers to make the entire team stronger technically. This includes training engineers in new and existing technologies. Create technical documentation for customers and for other departments to share knowledge.
- This role is the final escalation point for network and security related issues. They define, test, and work through the integration of new products, features, and services into existing ecosystems. We define the hardware standards and software requirements, including deciding when to upgrade code, keeping track of vulnerabilities, etc.
- Write and deploy automation and scripting to make the service provider group more efficient at service provisioning and service support
- Supporting sales staff in both new sale and upgrade opportunities.
- Evaluate new technology for possible integration into current and/or new network infrastructure.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience is required. Applicable experience may be considered as a substitute such as 15+ years of technical experience working in a carrier grade MSP network.
- CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) is required. This certification must be Active of Current not expired. FCP (Fortinet Certified Professional) in Network Security is required. CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert) is a plus.
- A strong candidate must have 15 years of experience working with various routing protocols and technologies such as OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, MPLS, SRv6, QOS, Multicasting and working in switched environments with strong understanding of layer 2 networks and topologies as it relates to design in Metro Ethernet deployments.
- A strong candidate will also have 6+ years’ experience working with automation tools like ansible or using code to run scripts (Python).
- The following certifications are not required but are considered a plus - RHCE, LFCS, LPI, CISSP, CEH, CISM, and CISA.
