Duties & Responsibilities:
- Data Model Creation & Optimization
- Design, implement, and refine data models to ensure high performance, scalability, and reliability across various platforms and applications.
- Continuously optimize and tune existing data models to improve data quality, accessibility, and efficiency.
- Data Architecture & Infrastructure
- Develop and maintain the overall data architecture strategy and roadmap, aligning it with business objectives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data architecture supports current and future reporting and analytics needs.
- ETL Development & Management
- Design and implement ETL procedures for ingesting data from internal and external sources, ensuring data integrity and high-quality datasets.
- Create and maintain processes that bring data into the data warehouse using ETL tools, while monitoring and addressing performance issues.
- Knowledge Sharing & Mentoring
- Provide guidance, training, and support to less senior team members, helping them understand data warehousing principles, tools, and best practices.
- Contribute to a collaborative environment by conducting code reviews, sharing technical insights, and creating documentation to upskill the broader team.
- Performance Monitoring & Optimization
- Track and optimize the performance of databases, data warehouses, and ETL pipelines to ensure reliability and efficiency.
- Identify bottlenecks and develop strategies for improving system throughput and data delivery times.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner with business stakeholders, data analysts, and decision-makers to translate data needs into technical requirements.
- Ensure data consistency, security, and accessibility while meeting regulatory and privacy standards.
- Documentation & Standards
- Maintain clear, comprehensive documentation of data models, database schemas, and key data entities.
- Establish and enforce best practices, coding standards, and data governance procedures.
- Compliance & Security
- Ensure that all databases and data warehouses are aligned with relevant legal regulations, privacy standards, and organizational security protocols.
- Proactively address security vulnerabilities and propose solutions to mitigate data risks.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Data Warehousing & Modeling: Strong understanding of data warehouse concepts (e.g., dimensional modeling, star schemas), data architecture, infrastructure components, and analytical tools.
- SQL & Programming: Proficiency in SQL and SQL-based technologies (PostgreSQL, MySQL), alongside familiarity with at least one programming language (Python preferred).
- ETL Tools & Processes: Hands-on experience with ETL tools (e.g., SSIS, Azure Data Factory), plus a solid grasp of data ingestion, transformation, and loading best practices.
- Performance Tuning: Ability to monitor and optimize performance across databases, ETL pipelines, and data warehouses.
- Analytical & Problem-Solving: Keen attention to detail, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to break down complex problems into actionable steps.
- Collaboration & Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and facilitate knowledge sharing among team members.
- Mentorship Mindset: Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor less experienced team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Proven experience as a Data Warehouse Engineer or a similar role in data management.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree preferred.
- Familiarity with cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure) and big data tools is preferred.
