Key Position Details:

  • This is a hybrid position, with required occasional on-site meetings

Job Description:

Coordinates the professional practice evaluation process including workflows, policy and procedures, and compliance expectations consistent with The Joint Commission and other regulatory standards for the Medical Staff. Responsible for Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE), Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) and case/peer review for all practitioners granted clinical privileges through the Medical Staff. Leads Medical Staff in determining and reviewing specialty case review indicators and prepares case summaries for approved specialty case review indicators. Represents Medical Staff Services on assigned committees that include Professional Practice Evaluation and Improvement Committees and department specialty committees/peer review work groups. Serves the Medical Staff Services Department as a clinical resource, consults and educates to support program goals.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Assessment
    • Collects, prioritizes and synthesizes comprehensive health record data pertinent to Medical Staff Services.
    • Performs initial clinical review of cases identified through department indicators; manages Medical Staff leadership review and follow-up.
    • Integrates and identifies data relevant to professional practice evaluation, including trends and variances.
    • Collects and prioritizes FPPE and OPPE data in a systematic and ongoing process that involves other health care providers as appropriate.
    • Uses appropriate evidence-based assessment techniques and protocols in data collection.
  • Evaluation
    • Utilizes systematic and ongoing assessment data to inform Medical Staff leaders of practitioner trends.
    • Influences Medical Staff Leadership by identifying outliers within their respective department and facilitates next steps to evaluate or drive improvement in individual practitioner performance.
    • Evaluates and summarizes practitioner progress towards FPPE goals.
  • Consultation and Education
    • Provides education and peer support for program goals.
    • Provides leadership in the professional practice setting and the profession. Maintains knowledge of Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies' standards/regulations.
    • Participates in shared decision-making.
    • Facilitates committees in determining appropriate course of action upon review of cases and data.
  • Collegiality
    • Contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and others.
    • Shares knowledge and skills in practice settings.
    • Provides immediate and ongoing positive and constructive feedback to colleagues regarding their performance.
    • Contributes to a supportive and healthy work environment.
  • Research
    • Researches medical literature when necessary and coordinates focus studies to evaluate quality of care.
    • Guides Medical Staff leaders in establishing and revising department-level professional practice evaluation indicators and evaluating the quality of patient care.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing
  • 3 to 7 years of inpatient hospital clinical experience or other clinical area relevant to position
  • Ability to review, summarize and analyze medical records, interpret and present data, and interpret and utilize hospital, state, federal and clinical guidelines for quality of patient care, confidentiality and privileging
  • excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office and web-based programs


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare administration or equivalent
  • 2 to 5 years of supporting an ongoing professional practice/focused professional practice, professional practice evaluation program or safety and quality


Licenses/Certifications

  • Licensed Registered Nurse - MN Board of Nursing preferred
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality preferred

Pay Range

Pay Range: $43.65 to $60.40 per hour

The pay described reflects the base hiring pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
