Job Description

The ideal Billing Manager will be highly detail-oriented, possess strong analytical skills, and have a deep understanding of managing billing operations across a complex global entity with multiple revenue streams. As the Billing Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely billing, managing billing discrepancies, and streamlining billing workflows. Your expertise in modern billing systems and passion for automation and process streamlining will be essential for success in this role.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead a global billing team, providing guidance and support in handling complex billing matters.
  • Oversee and manage the operation of the organization's complex billing systems, consisting of multiple different billing platforms.
  • Partner with Revenue Operations, Pricing, and other functions to create new billing processes and update billing platforms as required by ABC’s rapid organic and acquisition-driven growth
  • Establish effective controls to efficiently monitor billing processes and avoid revenue and collections issues
  • Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies, disputes, and customer inquiries promptly and professionally and address root causes to prevent future issues.
  • Participate in the month-end close process and partner with the Revenue Accounting team to record revenue and receivables accurately and timely.
  • Partner with Collections to report on and minimize bad debt.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and automate billing processes to enhance accuracy and optimize collections.
  • Collaborate with IT to implement system enhancements and improvements and train team members in new processes and system capabilities to ensure adoption.
  • Utilize advanced Excel (and other data tools such as PowerBI) skills to analyze and summarize large datasets related to billing and financial records.
  • Present billing metrics and insights to senior management to support decision-making processes.
  • Stay updated with changes in billing laws and regulations and implement necessary adjustments to billing practices.
     

What You’ll Need:

  • 5+ years of complex billing experience, including global exposure and multiple billing platforms.
  • 3+ years managing a high-performing team
  • Billing experience with software-as-a-service or other high-volume, subscription-based industry(ies)
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including experience with complex formulas, pivot tables, and data manipulation.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience with both internal and external stakeholder management
  • Extensive experience collaborating with Corporate Applications or similar IT functions to enhance system functionality and reporting and streamline/automate processes
  • Highly detail-oriented with exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Desire to participate in a continuous improvement culture.
     

And it’s Great to Have:

  • Chargebee, Recurly, Salesforce Billing, or similar subscription billing platform experience
  • Workday Financials ERP experience
  • Familiarity with revenue recognition principles per US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Experience understanding accounting system functionality and working with developers to optimize and/or create new functionality
  • B.S. or B.A. in Accounting or related field
  • Mergers & Acquisitions experience
  • Private equity background
