Job description

Description

The Payroll Accountant must be a knowledgeable GL Accountant and payroll practitioner with the ability to manage projects for the department. This position will support the processing of US and Canadian bi-weekly payrolls and all financial accounting impacts of the payroll process.  


Responsibilities: 

  • Participates in the success of the Payroll Department, in conjunction with a Payroll Practitioner, by participating in all aspects of a multi-state bi-weekly payroll in the US (partnering with Paylocity) and multi-province bi-weekly payroll in Canada (partnering with ADP). 
  • Reconciles payroll general ledger accounts, including taxes, benefits, and deductions to ensure complete and accurate payroll-related accounts. 
  • Prepares payroll-related general ledger entries and ensures timely and accurate recording of payroll transactions.
  • Serves as the primary liaison between payroll, accounting and finance teams for payroll-related journal entries, reconciliations and financial analysis.
  • Executes procedures and processes, responds to inquiries and requests related to the preparation and distribution of payroll. 
  • Collaborates with the Payroll Practitioner and the Global People Services team to verify payroll data and processes payroll transactions when necessary, including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions and payroll-related updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
  • Participates in maintaining, integrating and testing Oracle Time and Labor as an input to the payroll process. 
  • Maintains payroll-related employee records. Has knowledge of the requirements pertaining to these records.
  • Remains current on new legislation and regulatory rulings that impact payroll, provides guidance on various federal, state, and local legislations, and leads projects related to implementing any identified compliance improvements required. 
  • Collaborates with leadership on payroll strategy to deliver a best-in-class payroll solution, including recommendations for updates to payroll software, systems and procedures.
  • Responsible for the documentation of standard processes within the team. 
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, provincial and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices. 
  • Communicates with government authorities when necessary to resolve withholding and reporting issues. 
  • Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors. 
  • Works with internal partners to ensure that data integrity, security and business needs are met. 
  • Performs other accounting or payroll duties as assigned.
Requirements

(These are the minimum qualifications you need to be considered for the job) 

  • Minimum 3 years advanced multi-state payroll processing experience. Multi-providence payroll processing experience is a plus.
  • Strong Accounting and/or Payroll skills. 
  • Strong analytic skills – enjoys finding the story behind the data.
  • Paylocity and ADP experience preferred. 
  • Oracle or other major ERP experience preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills and basic use of remaining Microsoft 365 suite. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, high attention to detail. 
  • Strong Customer Service skills and ability to communicate efficiently. 
  • Problem-Solving skills and ability to work with no supervision. 
  • Excellent planning and organizing skills. 
  • Bachelor’s degree, Associate’s degree in Accounting, or Certified Payroll Professional designation required.
  • While this position is remote, the ability to work during business hours for the eastern time zone is strongly preferred.
