Job description

At eBay, we're more than a global ecommerce leader — we’re changing the way the world shops and sells. Our platform empowers millions of buyers and sellers in more than 190 markets around the world. We’re committed to pushing boundaries and leaving our mark as we reinvent the future of ecommerce for enthusiasts.

Our customers are our compass, authenticity thrives, bold ideas are welcome, and everyone can bring their unique selves to work — every day. We're in this together, sustaining the future of our customers, our company, and our planet.

Join a team of passionate thinkers, innovators, and dreamers — and help us connect people and build communities to create economic opportunity for all.

About the team and the role:

TCGplayer, now a part of eBay, connects hobbyists and hobby businesses: we relentlessly pursue customer-focused innovations to provide the most compelling destination and tools for collectible card game enthusiasts and professional sellers. We’re dedicated to serving the global collectible community – millions of buyers and tens of thousands of retailers – representing a $25B hobby market.

We are looking for a highly collaborative and motivated UX Designer to join our UX Research, Strategy & Design team, supporting the success and growth of buyers and sellers around the world. Our mission is to promote a culture of design thinking that results in useful, scalable, engaging and TCGplayer brand-worthy products. We champion a user-centered approach to design, and advocate for our customers as we build alongside Product and Engineering teammates.

If you’re enthusiastic about beautiful, user-centered design that’s heavily rooted in quantitative data and qualitative insights, and have experience designing consumer-facing software for connecting and managing external devices, this is an excellent opportunity! Our team prides itself on a culture that fosters camaraderie, embraces diversity, and exudes passion.

You don’t have to be a hobbyist or gamer to love working at TCGplayer, but you should be comfortable embracing (and amplifying!) our commitment to making hobbies and games accessible, fun, and rewarding for everyone.

What you will accomplish:

As a key member of the Digitization team, you’ll be helping us build a product ecosystem of connected software, scanners, and robotic sorting devices that automate the process of identifying, valuing, and listing products on the TCGplayer marketplace. This includes:

  • Working effectively within an established design process and design system to deliver high-quality, user-centered solutions within project timelines

  • Partnering with UX Researchers to collect data and customer feedback, and incorporate findings into experiences that meet customer expectations

  • Identifying the right UX deliverables and artifacts that support the project needs and provide insight that drives decision making

  • Creating scalable design solutions that satisfy business objectives, align with technical capabilities, and adhere to accessibility standards

  • Producing user testing prototypes to validate design concepts and iterations that reflect feedback from users and team members

  • Collaborating with cross-functional team members throughout all phases of the design process

What you will bring:
  • Required Qualifications

    • 3-4 years of experience in a dedicated UX design role

    • BA/BS degree in Design, Human–Computer Interaction (HCI), or equivalent practical experience.

    • Experience designing applications for connecting and managing external devices (e.g., internet-of-things products, printers, scanners, or WiFi routers)

    • Experience designing for customer-facing web-based applications

    • Experience with system design concepts, including analyzing, mapping, and visualizing complex systems involving hardware integrations.

    • Experience using research, user testing, and other quantitative and qualitative data to inform design decisions

    • Strong portfolio showcasing user-centered design solutions and problem-solving skills with measurable impact

    • Experience working in a multi-team, agile environment using tools like Jira and Confluence

  • Competencies and skills

    • Ability to understand complex problems and transform them into intuitive and accessible design solutions

    • Solid understanding of UX design principles and industry best practices, and can apply them within a design system with limited guidance

    • Ability to translate product requirements into viable, user-centered solutions through an established UX design process

    • Keen eye for detail to ensure design consistency and quality across products

    • Manages time and resources efficiently to meet project requirements and deadlines

    • Communicates clearly, provides rationale for design decisions, and is comfortable presenting to stakeholders

    • Gives and receives constructive feedback, has a growth mindset, and contributes to UX team culture

    • Knowledge of responsive design principles for web and mobile-web applications.

    • Advanced-level skills with design and prototyping tools such as Figma and Adobe Creative Suite

    • Familiarity with basic HTML, CSS, and frontend frameworks like Vue (coding not required)

    • Knowledge of WCAG accessibility principles and standards

  • Preferred Qualifications

    • Familiarity with the hobby and collectibles community, particularly trading card games

    • Experience designing customer-facing products for FAANG or similar industry-leading companies with millions of customers.

    • Experience designing software interfaces for external hardware and robotics

    • Knowledge of inventory management systems, warehousing, and logistics
