We are searching for a Design Director with a passion for RPG games that hold player interest for hundreds of hours through systemically generated content. You will be the vision holder and owner for highly re-playable modes for an open world shooter. Your technical aptitude and deep knowledge of game mechanics will allow you to direct the creation of compelling game modes at high fidelity. These game modes will efficiently use authoring tools and assets created for the campaign in a manner that engages players and keeps them coming back again and again. The game modes you create will provide endless opportunities for a player to experiment with different weapon and skill loadouts, socialize with friends, and pursue long-term progression goals in a variety of interesting settings with constantly evolving challenges.

  

This role is a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. The home studio is Irvine, CA 

 

 

Responsibilities

Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  

  • Define and set the strategic direction for re-playable game modes in collaboration with the leadership team across all disciplines.

  • Apply your knowledge of industry trends to selectively target key areas of innovation that have shown potential but have not yet permeated the AAA space.

  • Work with engineering, art, and audio to guide game modes from concepting to delivery.

  • Stay current of player tastes and trends to balance novel approaches with proven techniques.

  • Advocate for the player: ensuring that their time with the game is surprising, satisfying, and memorable.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

  • 12+ years of experience in a design role; or equivalent in work/education experience with minimum 5 years experience leading and mentoring teams.

  • Shipped 1+ AAA title in a leadership or director-level position.

  • Experience leading cross-discipline teams in feature development.

  • Experience with AAA game engines such as Unreal, Unity, CryEngine, or Source.

  • Experience developing design concepts from conception to implementation in a clear, detailed manner.

  • A deep understanding of how content should be authored to achieve this in a production efficient way.

  • Multi-disciplinary. Though you understand design deeply, you also have a strong background in art, programming, or audio.

  • A strong interest and practical working knowledge of how technology could be used to create new experiences for players.

  • Strong documentation philosophies and strategies to evangelize your designs

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $124,400.00 - $230,300.00 Annual. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this role’s range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed. While we strive to provide competitive offers to successful candidates, new hire compensation is negotiable.
