Job description

The Role

Evidence is one of our core organizational values, and is crucial in enabling us to utilize data to drive decisions. The Intern, User Researcher’s role is to support the planning and execution of a variety of hypothesis driven research activities. Working collaboratively with stakeholders and team members, you will help to generate research findings that bring new functions, features, and products to life. You will craft research approaches and analyses that inform the offerings on the JSTOR platform that make academic journals, books, documents, and images available to millions of learners around the world. 

You will work as a directly embedded member of our JSTOR product teams on research targeted to the JSTOR platform and specifically developing Generative AI capabilities. 

This internship spans a period of 12 weeks, beginning on June 2, 2025. To be considered for this opportunity, please ensure your application is submitted by the deadline of February 7, 2025.

Responsibilities
  • Create tests to validate various product hypotheses, utilizing a broad range of methods (including in-depth interview, survey, prototype testing, usability, observational, A/B, card sort, click test).
  • Work hand-in-hand with product teams, analysts, and fellow researchers to scope, prioritize, and execute research opportunities in a fast-paced changing environment.
  • Communicate research findings across the organization, leveraging a variety of communication strategies.
Experience and Skills
  • Actively enrolled in a graduate degree program
  • In the process of obtaining a bachelors or advanced degree in Social Sciences, HCI or related field.
  • Familiarity with user-centered research and evaluation.
  • Exposure to a varied set of qualitative and quantitative research methods including user interview, survey, prototype testing, A/B, and ethnography. 
  • Conceptual understanding of when to use qualitative and quantitative data. 
  • Familiarity with common online research and survey tools, such as Optimal Workshop, Qualtrics, and Ethnio.
  • Ability to facilitate research from planning to execution and communicating insights with a multidisciplinary audience.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze situations, identify existing or potential problems and recommend solutions.
  • Ability to learn quickly, work independently, and take personal initiative to complete tasks.
