Job description

Compassion & Choices is seeking a Sr Digital Communications Specialist to help advance our advocacy, medical outreach and education efforts across the country.

 

This position is primarily responsible for implementing the digital communications tactics for supporter engagement within state and regional legislative and advocacy outreach campaigns. The Senior Digital Communications Specialist has responsibility for implementing in-state digital advocacy strategy, and providing support for the development, planning, and coordination of in-state digital media work performed by inter- and intra-departmental partners, including but not limited to Advocacy & Outreach staff, and consultants in states. They are also responsible for supporting the digital elements of earned media and public relations in designated states/regions, and for providing technical advice and assistance to non-digital team members.

 

This is a full-time, remotely-located, paid position reporting to the Director, Digital Advocacy East. Compensation offered will be commensurate with experience. This position will primarily be responsible for:

  • Leads the implementation of  integrated digital communications plans for state-based and regional Advocacy & Outreach campaigns including web content, email, digital advertising and social media as appropriate.
  • Implements strategies to acquire new supporters through digital channels specific to Advocacy & Outreach activities and priorities.
  • Works with the wider Digital and Marketing/Public Relations teams to identify opportunities, synergies and strategies that promote C&C Advocacy and Outreach priorities and activities. 
  • Writes copy and manages intra- and inter-departmental production and approval workflows for digital assets including email, blogs, and social posts, and publishes those materials in a timely and effective manner.
  • Serves as an ambassador for the Digital department at internal strategy and coalition meetings, and stays current on substantive developments in the end-of-life care movement by reading the latest literature, attending meetings, and maintaining contact with relevant sources.
  • Ensure communications products are always respectful, culturally competent, and inclusive. 
  • Timely and accurate completion of related reports (such as “P card”, performance reviews, etc.). 
  • Demonstrates commitment to and active support of C&C’s Diversity & Inclusion program.

  • Support of all C&C efforts as requested; including, but not limited to, activities such as identifying prospects, briefing donors, alerting staff of fundraising opportunities, reaching out to donors, participating in phone-a-thons, etc. 


Required Qualifications (You will be a good fit if you have the following):

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Digital Communication or related field is required — or an equivalency of related experience and/or education may be considered.
  • A minimum of 2 years work or relative lived experience with at least half of that time related to political or issue advocacy work.

 

Skills:

  • Language Skills: Ability to write emails, press documents, talking points, speeches, articles, ads, fliers, and other necessary materials that conform to prescribed style and format and that motivate new and existing supporters to engage in the end-of-life choice movement.
    • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, inductive and deductive reasoning, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of EveryAction/Bonterra or similar CRM, HTML, Vocus/Cision software, Google suite, MS Office.
