Senior Network Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Network Engineer to join our team at Antietam Broadband, a leading Internet Service Provider (ISP). The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust and scalable network infrastructure to deliver high-quality and reliable internet services to our customers. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on complex, large-scale networking projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Rate: $120,000-$150,000/year

Location: Remote

Responsibilities Include:

• Lead the design and implementation of high-performance, reliable, and scalable network infrastructures, including IP routing, switching, and broadband services.
• Design and optimize network topologies for maximum efficiency and fault tolerance.
• Provide expert-level troubleshooting of network issues, including diagnosing and resolving network connectivity, performance, and security problems.
• Collaborate with other teams to resolve escalated technical issues and outages.
• Analyze network traffic and performance to identify areas for improvement.
• Implement optimizations to enhance speed, reliability, and capacity, ensuring high availability of ISP services.
• Create and maintain detailed documentation of network designs, configurations, and changes.
• Provide regular reports on network performance, project status, and incident resolutions to management.
• Ensure network security through the deployment and management of firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and other security measures.
• Stay up to date with security best practices, industry trends, and relevant compliance requirements.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including technical support, operations, and customer service, to ensure seamless integration of new services and products.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior network engineers and technicians.
• Manage relationships with vendors and third-party service providers to evaluate, select, and integrate networking equipment and software.
• Assist in negotiating contracts and service level agreements (SLAs).
• Monitor network capacity and growth trends, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to meet future demand.
• Conduct network performance and capacity planning, making recommendations for upgrades.

You will need to have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in network engineering, preferably in the ISP industry or a similar environment.
• Extensive experience with networking technologies such as BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VLANs, VPNs, and QoS.
• Proven track record of troubleshooting complex network issues and optimizing network performance.
• In-depth knowledge of routing and switching protocols, network security, and broadband technologies.
• Hands-on experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools (e.g., Wireshark, SolarWinds, NetFlow).
• Proficiency in network design software, such as Visio, and configuration management tools.
• Knowledge of cloud networking, SD-WAN, and virtualized network environments is a plus.
• CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) or higher certification preferred.
• Relevant certifications in network security (e.g., CISSP, CCNP Security) are a plus.
• Strong problem-solving abilities with excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to work under pressure and handle complex network issues.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

Even Better If You Have:

• Experience with network automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Python scripting).
• Familiarity with internet backbone technologies and peering arrangements.
• Experience with customer-facing support for network services.
• Knowledge of emerging technologies in the ISP and telecommunications space, such as 5G, IPv6, and fiber-optic networking.
• Ability to work outside normal business hours during network maintenance windows or emergencies.
