Role Summary: | Responsible for all aspects of vessel movements in and out of North American ports, ensuring seamless coordination between vessels, crew, terminals, alliance partners, global oversight team and various other stakeholders. Responsible for managing the team to optimize vessel schedules, manage communication flows, and ensure efficient, safe, and compliant operations. Closely coordinates with and follows direction from the global vessel operations oversight team. |
Additional Responsibilities: | Vessel Scheduling & Coordination: Develop and manage vessel schedules to maximize efficiency and minimize port turnaround time. Coordinate vessel arrivals and departures with port authorities, terminals, pilots, and tugs. Liaise with vessel masters and crew regarding port calls, cargo operations, and any arising issues. Oversee communication and coordination with the Panama Canal Authority for transit scheduling and requirements.
Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary point of contact and communication hub between vessels and various stakeholders, including terminals, agents, charterers, and internal departments. Build and maintain strong relationships with port authorities, terminal operators, tug companies, husbandry agents, and other service providers. Collaborate with vessel partners to ensure alignment on schedules, operational procedures, and communication protocols.
Operational Efficiency, Safety & Compliance: Optimize vessel operations to minimize delays, costs, and environmental impact. Oversee vessel speed and routing to ensure safe and economical voyages, considering factors such as weather conditions, fuel efficiency, and potential hazards. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including safety, environmental, and security protocols. Oversee the management of vessel documentation and ensure accuracy and timely submission.
Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of vessel operations specialists. Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment. Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance appraisals.
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve vessel operations efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness. Implement best practices and innovative solutions to optimize processes. Monitor industry trends and adapt operations to meet evolving challenges.

Function-Specific Required Skills and Competencies: | Deep understanding of vessel operations, port procedures, and maritime regulations. Familiarity with vessel communication systems and technologies

Required Minimum Years Experience: | 10+ years of experience in vessel operations or a related field 8+ years in a management role |
Required Minimum Education: | Bachelor's degree in Maritime Operations, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. |
