The Nunavut Housing Corporation (NHC) is an agency of the Government of Nunavut which serves the housing needs of one of the fastest growing and youngest populations in Canada. NHC’s mandate is to create, co-ordinate, and administer housing programs in order to provide fair access to a range of affordable housing options to families and individuals in Nunavut. NHC has recently launched The Nunavut 3000 Strategy, (www.igluliuqatigiingniq.ca) which is a collaboration between the government and its partners to deliver 3,000 new units across the housing continuum by 2030.

Reporting to the Manager, Information Technology, the Information Technology Technician will support the NHC and LHO staff in the use of NHC information systems and applications. The position will provide support to LHOs in delivery of public housing programs. The key deliverables of this position is to ensure that NHC and LHO staff can use the tools needed to provide efficient and accurate services to clients to ensure the successful delivery of NHC programs.

The Information Technology Technician is required to support and implement applications and information systems infrastructure for the delivery of NHCs programs including public and staff housing, construction, inventory management, operations, financial and information systems. The support directly impacts the NHC, LHOs and the public by ensuring accurate and available information can be utilized by staff when interacting with the public. Applications and information systems infrastructure support provides the NHC and LHO staff with the assistance required when dealing with public and staff housing tenants, as well as Nunavut homeowners. The support will reduce cost and result in operations that are more efficient and effective.

Key Responsibilities Of The Successful Candidate Will Also Include

  • Providing end user support to the four corporate offices and twenty-five (25) local housing associations located in the twenty-five (25) Nunavut communities;
  • Providing remote administration and monitoring of NHC owned equipment and network infrastructure located in twenty-five (25) communities across Nunavut;
  • Assisting in the implementation and administration of NHC information systems and the integration of these disparate systems;
  • Administering server operating systems including Windows 10, MacOS and Linux workstations and servers;
  • Assisting in the management and providing the end user support for the NHC and LHO mobile devices, including iOS and Android devices from various vendors, to ensure operability and accessibility to corporate applications and resources; and
  • Troubleshooting complex projects and systems throughout NHC’s disperse infrastructure.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are:

  • A two year diploma in a relevant field of Information Technology with a minimum of two years of recent experience in information technology systems

The Following Skills / Designations Are Considered Assets

  • CompTIA A+
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals
  • ITIL Foundation Certification
  • Experience with Database query languages (SQL), programming in javascript, and/or working with development frameworks.
