Role: The Audit & Compliance Specialist will provide support to the Audit & Compliance department working directly with the VP Audit & Compliance. The primary responsibility of this position will be providing task support to the Audit & Compliance department. This position will also be responsible for visiting the branch locations and conducting audit and compliance functions as well as assisting with preparing and delivering Compliance trainings for all staff.
This position is eligible for a hybrid work from home schedule, as set and approved by the positions manager in accordance with the credit union's Remote Work policy.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- 35% - Travels to all branch locations following assigned schedule to conduct regular and systematic reviews and audits including branch cash audits, membership audits, etc.
- 30% - Conducts various required and routine compliance reviews under the direction of the VP Audit & Compliance. Assists with mandatory compliance reporting to comply with credit union and regulatory policies including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act.
- 15% - Serves as a primary contact and resource for employees with questions related to compliance topics. Conducts research as needed to provide solutions and answers to routine and non-routine compliance focused member, product or service related concerns.
- 10% - Working closely with various departments, assists with the research, development and implementation of new products and services. Develops and delivers compliance trainings for employees on various topics as assigned.
- 5% - Provides support for external audits and NCUA exams.
- 5% - Assists with maintaining vendor due diligence documentation.
Performance Measurements:
- Travel on a regular basis throughout the market area to visit branch locations and departments to conduct audit and compliance related reviews, branch cash counts and follow up on other related audit and compliance requirements.
- Routinely assists with processing Verafin alerts, decedent account reporting, system file maintenance reviews and legal documentation reviews (i.e. POAs, trust documents).
- Completes assigned tasks to support the departments routine and required compliance reviews of credit union policies, account and service disclosures, reports and internal controls. Reviews membership audits for compliance, accuracy and completeness.
- Maintains knowledge of all credit union policies and procedures as it relates to the Audit & Compliance department. Keeps abreast of industry compliance topics and changes, working closely with management and staff to educate, prepare and implement required changes as needed.
- Serves as a primary contact and resource for employees with questions related to compliance topics. Conducts research as needed to provide solutions and answers to routine and non-routine compliance focused member, product or service related concerns.
- Conducts duties to ensure credit union compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act, including providing assistance with reporting.
- Provides support to the department in maintaining accurate and complete records for the Credit Union's Vendor Due Diligence documentation.
- Maintains knowledge of the content within and functionality of the credit union's Learning Management System (LMS). Assists with maintaining content in the LMS and accessing and updating employee records and reports within the system as it related to required training and compliance topics.
- Reviews, develops and delivers compliance trainings for employees on various topics as assigned.
- Working closely with various departments, assists with the research, development and implementation of new products and services.
- Provides support to identify, collect and respond to requested information for internal and external audits, including NCUA exams.
- Provides additional assistance to the VP of Audit & Compliance as needed.
- Participate in training and professional development activities to acquire and maintain standards established by the credit union. This could include attending conferences, seminars and workshops as directed by management.
- Becomes familiar with and abides by policies, procedures and guidelines set forth by the credit union, e.g. Security; Bank Secrecy Act; Identity Theft and Red Flags; Cash Over/Short Guidelines; Check Cashing and Holds; Confidentiality; etc.
- Maintain a current understanding of lending regulations and comply with policies and regulations including, but not limited to, Bank Secrecy Act, Truth in Lending, Fair Lending, RESPA, HMDA, FCRA and the SAFE Act.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Education - 1) A bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g., information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).
Experience - Three years to five years of experience working in a compliance related or similar role. Prior financial institution experience strongly preferred.
Interpersonal Skills - Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
Other Skills
- A valid state driver's license is required.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary to effectively deal with members and employees of the credit union.
- Must be able to operate a personal computer and possess a functional knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook software.
- This position requires initiative, motivation, creativity and an ability to understand many areas of the credit union business.
- The ability to react positively to new developments in compliance and audit and support and embrace change across the organization.
Physical Requirements
Involves sitting and standing for long periods of time. Requires the expression or exchanging of ideas by means of the spoken word to clearly communicate with members and employees. Requires the ability to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and have the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, including making fine discriminations in sound. Requires reaching to extend hand(s) and/or arm(s) in various directions. Requires repetitive finger movements to perform typing or otherwise working with paper files and documents. Requires close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures; view a computer terminal; read and assess work quality.
Work Environment
- Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions..
- State of Pennsylvania residency required.
- Position is eligible for a hybrid work from home schedule, as set and approved by the positions manager in accordance with the credit union's Remote Work policy. In order to be approved to work from home, a cable modem or fiber internet connection is required which must have minimum service speed of 10M download / 2M upload, with less than 1% packet loss. Internet service and modem are the employee's expense.
