The Lancet Regional Health – Americas is an open access journal, part of the Lancet's global initiative to advocate for health-care quality and access in all regions of the world. We are an international team, handling high-quality research, reviews, commissions and commentaries to drive thought leadership across all areas of clinical and global public health pertaining to the WHO Americas region. We build close relationships with clinical and research communities to ensure we offer a personalised service to authors while publishing exciting, interesting, and thought-provoking content. We also undertake considerable community engagement and political activities to leverage change.
About the Role
As a Deputy Editor, you'll assist the Editor-in-Chief with journal organization and preparation. You'll oversee submissions and peer reviews, ensuring high-quality publications. You'll also train new Editors and collaborate with other Lancet journal teams. Additionally, you'll build international relationships to share impactful research findings.

Responsibilities
Assist the Editor-in-Chief with decisions on which new submissions should be considered for publication.
Help the Editor develop editorial strategy, including the development of special projects such as Series and Commissions.
Assist with the timely production of 12 journal issues.
Provide training and mentorship to new Editors on the team, focusing on manuscript evaluation, peer-review processes, editorial writing, and commissioning content.
Write editorials, organise peer review of research articles and reviews, and conduct webinars and podcasts with authors and key opinion leaders.
Develop and maintain relationships with medical research communities to solicit high-quality research, particularly clinical trials, for the journal.
Attend conferences and other events to represent the journal, identify suitable topics and authors, and stay up-to-date with current developments in medical research.
Requirements
A medical degree in a relevant discipline or a higher degree (PhD) in a relevant discipline (eg, biomedical science, public health, global health)
Editorial experience at a senior level, with a good understanding of editorial process and journal production
Ability to demonstrate thorough knowledge of clinical and broader social issues pertaining to the Americas region
Ability to engage and build relationships with external stakeholders, including medical and research professionals
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work efficiently to demanding deadlines
Excellent command of the English language and the ability to write in an engaging and interesting manner
Proficiency with IT systems including MS Office
Genuine commitment to equity in health and healthcare
Demonstrate a consistently positive and proactive approach to challenges and tasks
Availability for travel and to attend conferences and events.
