People Services Advisor – 12 Month FTC

Location Commutable distance to Winchester

The People Services Advisor is responsible for managing, advising and resolving their own ER case loads e.g. grievance, disciplinary, probation, capability, flexible working, misconduct and sickness cases. They will also contribute to the review and development of policies and procedures and undertake related tasks and projects. The People Services Advisor will work proactively with the People Services team to deliver a seamless, quality ER and People advisory service.

The role

  • Provide advice and guidance on employment-related matters including contractual issues, employee relations and People related matters in accordance with organisation policies and procedures, legislation and best practice referring
  • Provide guidance and advice on a range of employment issues including performance, conduct, grievance, misconduct, flexible working, probation and absence issues and to manage formal employee relations processes
  • Support Investigating Managers in disciplinary, grievance and misconduct investigations through advice on the conduct of the meeting and format. Drafting questions, reports and correspondence to support the process
  • Sit on disciplinary and appeal panels/meetings and provide advice to the panel on appropriate level of sanction up to and including dismissal. Seeking the necessary support where appropriate.
  • Support line managers with practical advice and guidance on how to manage formal ER issues, ensuring consistency of approach and compliance with legislation and in line with organisation policies, procedures and processes.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, training and advice to managers and staff on conflict resolution as an alternative to formal Employee Relations procedures. To apply knowledge of conflict and early resolution to support the management of conflict at informal stage. To coach and support managers and employees to mutually resolve conflict positively.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with recognised trade union representatives and the Arqiva Employee Board representatives and support People and Culture initiatives, working groups and cultural projects as an ambassador and role model.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of positive employee relations through the timely and accurate provision of advice and guidance
  • Keep up to date with any legislative changes and developments in best practice HR and Employee Relations.
  • Draft Settlement Agreements, this will include calculating statutory redundancy payments and where applicable enhanced redundancy payments.
  • Update and audit HR systems to ensure accurate ER information is input onto the system for case management.
  • Deliver workshops in person or remotely as required contributing to content on a range of ER related topics.
  • Update the ER case management tools to ensure that the information is accurate and up to date.
  • Keep the stakeholders e.g. People Services Partner, Strategic People Partner, Head of People Services updated on cases with consistency to agreed ways of working
  • Take non-verbatim notes at meetings as necessary.
  • Take a proactive role in the continuous improvement in the management of employee relations

Projects

  • Undertake, or contribute to, specific People/ER-related projects as requested by Head of People Services / People Services Partners as required
  • Facilitate training on a range of ER related topics as required.
  • Attend and participate at meetings and seminars and facilitate/deliver workshops as required.
  • Contribute to the development of HR policies and procedures.
  • Promote and facilitate good equal opportunities practice across all areas of employment.
  • Support Organisational Effectiveness activity through leading advice and interventions in formal consultation activity (collective, individual and other forms of consultation regarding variations to terms and conditions of employment), coaching leaders and employees through the change management curve
  • Experience of operational, day-to-day HR activities with a current knowledge of ER principles and practice.
  • Proven experience of dealing with and managing employee relations cases with minimal direction for example disciplinary, grievances and performance management issues up to and including dismissal.

The person

  • Experience of dealing with trade unions and/or staff associations would be desirable.
  • Experience of working effectively within a team
  • Experience of note taking at ER meetings.
  • Experience of delivering ER training sessions.
  • Proven ability of providing a high quality, accurate and timely customer focused service
  • The ability to motivate and develop staff to work effectively as a team
  • Ability to advise and guide managers on a wide range of ER issues and the ability to explain HR issues and procedures to staff at all levels with confidence and articulately
  • Ability to write reports and letters clearly, accurately and in a sensitive manner
  • Ability to independently manage a large caseload
  • Ability to deal sensitively, assertively and diplomatically with people at all levels
  • Ability to perform effectively to tight deadlines with good personal organisation and time management skills
  • IT literate (Microsoft Office, Teams, Excel)
  • Able to initiate, prioritise and plan a range of activities without regular supervision
  • Able to respond to changing priorities
  • Able to develop and improve policies, procedures and working methods
  • Able to analyse and solve problems
  • Ability to understand when to escalate issues to a senior colleague as appropriate
  • Able and willing to work flexibly
