About the Opportunity:

At NewCo, we’re constantly reimagining what’s possible in our industry—creating disruptively simple, powerfully clear ways to maximize our clients’ financial outcomes today and drive down healthcare costs tomorrow. As part of the Software Engineering team, you will work closely with our software engineering team, product managers, and QA engineers to create comprehensive technical documentation. This includes system architecture guides, user manuals, API references, release notes, internal developer documentation, and troubleshooting guides. You’ll be instrumental in ensuring that both our engineering team and our customers can easily understand, use, and build upon our software products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Implement Documentation Strategy: Evaluate current documentation needs, determine appropriate tools and platforms, and develop a comprehensive strategy for technical content creation, maintenance, and delivery. Identify areas for improvement, streamline processes, and ensure documentation aligns with business goals and user needs.
  • Write and Maintain Documentation: Develop clear, concise, and well-structured technical content, including but not limited to API documentation, system architecture guides, installation manuals, user guides, release notes, and troubleshooting documents.
  • Collaborate with Cross-functional Teams: Work with software engineers, product managers, and quality assurance teams to gather technical information and ensure accuracy and clarity in documentation.
  • Document Processes and Workflows: Capture internal processes and workflows, including deployment processes, testing strategies, and software development life cycle (SDLC) documentation.
  • Create Developer-Focused Content: Produce API documentation, code examples, and SDK guides to help developers effectively use and integrate with our software tools.
  • Ensure Consistency and Quality: Ensure consistency in the documentation’s style, format, and tone, in line with the company’s guidelines.
  • Update Documentation: Continuously update and improve existing documentation to keep it current with the latest software releases, features, and updates.
  • Review and Edit Content: Review and edit content produced by other team members to ensure technical accuracy and clarity.
Qualifications

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a technical writer, preferably in a software development or engineering environment.
  • Strong understanding of software development concepts, including APIs, system architecture, and databases.
  • Experience writing technical documentation for developers, end users, and system administrators.
  • Ability to learn complex technical concepts quickly and convey them clearly to various audiences.
  • Attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with Agile development processes is a plus.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to adapt tone, style, and complexity based on the audience (developers, end users, or internal stakeholders).
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Communications, English, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with API documentation tools like Swagger/OpenAPI, Postman, or similar.
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS) and documentation tools such as Confluence.
  • Experience creating content for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Familiarity with healthcare payment integrity solutions is a plus.

Success After 3 Months:

  • Documentation Assessment Completed: Completed a thorough audit of existing documentation to identify gaps, inconsistencies, and areas for improvement.
  • Prioritized Documentation Needs: Established a clear plan of action with prioritized documentation tasks (e.g., addressing the most critical gaps like API docs or user guides).
  • Basic Documentation Delivered: Successfully created or updated foundational documentation, such as key internal processes, setup instructions, or troubleshooting guides, with a focus on clarity and basic accuracy.

Success After 1 Year:

  • Structured Documentation Framework: Developed and implemented a consistent structure for documentation (e.g., templates, formatting standards) that is being used across projects.
  • Core Documentation Content Completed: Published and maintained essential documentation (such as internal development onboarding guides and release notes) for the most critical areas of the product, ensuring it is accurate and up to date.
  • Increased Collaboration and Feedback Loop: Established regular collaboration with engineers and product teams, ensuring documentation is continuously reviewed, improved, and aligned with product changes.
