The Asia Pacific regional team is a dynamic group of policy, technology, marketing, and Mobile 4 Development (M4D) experts spread across the region. Our policy team comprises individuals with diverse backgrounds, including government, MNOs, and industry, supported by a global team of specialists in London.

The policy team plays a crucial role in shaping the future of the mobile industry by:

Prioritising and executing GSMA policy programs aligned with member interests.

  • Engaging with policymakers and regulators to advance policy discourse and contribute to market research.
  • Representing the mobile industry's perspective on a wide range of digital economy and society issues.
  • Building and nurturing relationships with the wider mobile ecosystem, government and policy stakeholders.
  • Providing valuable insights on regional policy priorities to the global team.

About the Role

The Policy Director, North East Asia, will report into the Head of Public Policy, APAC, which is part of the Asia Pacific Regional team.

  • Leading GSMA's policy agenda in North East Asia and advanced markets in APAC (e.g. Australia, Singapore)
  • Lead advocacy on digital policies related to emerging technologies such as AI, cloud computing, Open RAN, data governance, and cybersecurity in North East Asia and advanced markets in APAC.
  • Develop strategies to address policy challenges in the implementation and regulation of next-generation networks and technologies, ensuring alignment with member priorities.
  • Represent GSMA in discussions on frameworks for digital innovation, including AI ethics, secure digital ecosystems, and data privacy.
  • Foster collaboration between MNOs, government bodies, and technology providers to drive policies supporting advanced connectivity and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Representing GSMA's interests in public consultations and industry forums.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to maximise impact and ensure alignment with broader GSMA goals.
  • Organising and delivering high-quality policy workshops, roundtables, and seminars at GSMA events.

About You

  • Expertise in Emerging Technologies: In-depth knowledge of AI, cloud infrastructure, Open RAN, and cybersecurity, with experience addressing related policy and regulatory frameworks.
  • Policy Development in Advanced Technology Domains: Proven ability to navigate and influence policies on data governance, privacy, cross-border data flows, and digital trust.
  • Strategic Thinking: Strong ability to develop and implement strategies that align with GSMA goals and member priorities.
  • Regulatory Expertise: Deep understanding of the ICT regulatory landscape across North East Asia.
  • Thought Leadership: Demonstrated capacity to lead global forums on digital policies and innovation.
  • Networking Skills: Established relationships with mobile industry players, platform companies (e.g., Google, META, AWS, etc.), and policymakers in Japan and South Korea.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience drafting policy documents and delivering presentations to senior stakeholders.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Experience leading cross-functional teams and driving initiatives in a matrix organization.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to interpret complex regulatory issues and develop strategic responses.
