Position Summary

The Portuguese-English translator will provide simultaneous translation from Portuguese to English and vice versa for a project working with media and civil society. The position is open to all qualified applicants.

IREX will prioritize individuals with previous experience of translating to and from Protuguese, as well as a ideally some prior knowledge and understanding of the media landscape in Portuguese-speaking countries, as well as holistic safety for journalists.

Please note this position is a remote position and part time with services requested on an as-needed basis within the next 9-12 months.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provision of clear, accurate and technically correct simultaneous interpretation from English to Portuguese and from Portuguese to English;
• On occasion, provision of written language translation of handouts, data collection tools, and other written material;

Selection Criteria

• Demonstrated experience in providing translation and interpretation from Portuguese to English and from English to Portuguese;
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including in remote settings;
• Price competitiveness;
• Knowledge of media and civil society landscape in Portuguese-speaking countries (preferred).

IREX may at its discretion ask for additional information, including references. Issuing this call does not commit IREX to select any applicant/expert. IREX might select more than one candidate from this call. IREX reserves the right, based on availability of funding and consultant(s) performance, to enter into subsequent contractual agreements with the winning vendor(s) for a period of up to three years without issuing a new call for applications.
