Labor Mediator

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Labor Mediator, you will be responsible for arranging conferences and promoting discussions between parties involved in a dispute, in addition to offering thoughtful suggestions and ideas to encourage peaceful settlements of disputes. Specific duties include obtaining and analyzing information regarding the issues in a dispute as well as the norms and practices within the specific industry in which the dispute exists. You will also p repare and file accurate and timely reports outlining the attending circumstances of disputes in assigned cases, case specifics, case history, progress, possible solutions, specific efforts of the mediator, and settlement details. Excellent leadership skills are essential, as you will be conducting trainings and making presentations comprised from material developed and approved by the Bureau of Mediation.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time, home-headquartered employment
• Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
• Work schedule is on a consistently irregular, on-call basis, and routinely includes evening hours and occasional weekends and/or holidays.

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Four years of progressively responsible experience in the field of labor-management relations and two years of experience in labor contract negotiations, administration, or mediation which includes or is supplemented by one year of collective bargaining experience; or
• A bachelor's degree with major course work in labor-management relations, industrial management, or personnel administration and two years experience in labor contract negotiations, administration, or mediation which includes or is supplemented by one year of collective bargaining experience; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training with two years of experience in labor contract negotiations, administration, or mediation which includes or is supplemented by one year of collective bargaining experience.

• Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within Juniata, Mifflin, Montour, Northumberland, Perry, Schuylkill, Snyder, or Union County. Legal Requirements:

• This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
