About the Backend Platform team
The Backend Platform team is responsible for creating a seamless developer experience by maintaining critical tools, standards, and best practices that enable fast, reliable, and secure software delivery. This includes managing our CI/CD pipeline, building shared libraries, enforcing quality controls, and enhancing our internal developer portal. As part of this team, you’ll contribute to boosting developer productivity and ensuring frictionless development and deployment across the entire engineering organization.

About the role
As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Backend Platform team, you will be a part of driving our mission to create a delightful developer experience, shipping tools and frameworks that empower teams to ship features quickly, safely and reliably. You will be at the heart of implementing the large-scale projects that continue to drive a seamless developer and user experience, such as the V2 of our CI pipeline or the development of our centralized Internal Developer Platform. This team celebrates transparency, partnerships and execution, and you will provide mentorship and diverse perspectives to multiple teams.
As a Senior Software Developer - Backend Platform, you will:Lead key Backend Platform projects which include planning, scoping and regularly communicating progress to stakeholders to ensure quality and timelinesDevelop and continuously improve code, delivering highly performant, efficient systems and tooling that support your clients, our developersCoach and mentor both the teams that build the backend platform and users of the platform across a variety of different tech stacks such as Ruby, Typescript , Java/Kotlin and PythonPartner closely with our Infrastructure and InfraSec teams, helping to build the tooling for a company-wide Kubernetes migrationCollaborate with Product to ensure we’re delivering backend tooling that can help us ship products faster with an emphasis on our clients and best-in-class developer experience Improve the development process for our engineering teams by keeping on top of industry trends and implementing new tools and best practicesParticipate in our hiring process and shape the growth of the Engineering teamJoin our on-call rotation to support and maintain our critical systems, demonstrating your growing expertise and commitment to our platform's reliability.What you bring:Strong programming skills in Ruby, TypeScript, Java/Kotlin, or Python, and proven experience using these languages to deliver scalable backend tooling or frameworksStrong experience with microservices architecture and CI/CD pipelines, with our tech stack using Kubernetes, ArgoCD, Docker, Github Actions, Datadog and Sentry among othersExperience with internal developer portals and tools, and a passion for creating fast, reliable, and streamlined developer experiencesProven ability to establish, implement and enforce backend development standards and best practices, leaning into the philosophy of “Convention over Configuration”A collaborative and open approach to communication: you are experienced in delivering clear, concise and solution-focused messages, that are easily understood by a cross-discipline teamA passion for mentorship: you love empowering other developers across various teams while learning new skills Why Wealthsimple?
