Koniag Technology Solutions, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Sr Cloud Engineer to support KTS and our government customer. This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a Public Trust. This is a Remote opportunity.

The Senior Cloud Engineer has all of the skills required by the Systems Engineers including—but not limited to provisioning, managing, and monitoring an on-prem/in-house/hosted environment. The Senior Cloud Engineer also has the requisite skills and knowledge for provisioning, managing, and monitoring of an environment predominantly in Azure, preferably with experience automating through scripting. This classification also helps to identify, design, deploy and migrate new or existing systems that would be best suited for IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS environments. The Senior Cloud Engineer is responsible for identification and selection of appropriate cloud services based on requirements and constraints, exercises subject matter expertise, and evaluates new technologies for fit in current infrastructure architecture.

Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintains the private and public cloud infrastructure.
  • Acts as a resource to internal ITS staff, judicial districts, other state agencies, and/or other organizational units as directed.
  • Displays leadership and mentoring for employees at the Systems Engineer I and II levels. Provides expertise and assistance to other employees.
  • Helps establish and adheres to change control procedures and assists development team during testing and deployment processes.
  • Provides Tier 3 support for relevant systems.
  • Assists with multi-tier architectures including web servers, caching, application servers, load balancers, and storage.
  • Assists with scripting and workload automation.
  • Private cloud responsibilities include consulting on, planning, designing, installing, configuring, administering, and maintaining x86 server and SAN infrastructure, VMware virtualization (vCenter, ESXi), backup infrastructure, and connectivity to other clouds and hosted services.
  • Assists in operational duties relating to Active Directory and Office 365 infrastructure, including administration of users and groups, DNS, and PKI.
  • Public cloud responsibilities include designing, deploying and migrating systems for IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, and archiving environments mostly in VMware and Azure clouds.
  • Works closely with Lead Systems Architect to identify, analyze and select cloud services for infrastructure architecture and business applications, and proposes plans for infrastructure investment.
  • Assists Lead Systems Architect to develop and manage cloud infrastructure capacity plan.
  • Develops, documents, communicates, and enforces a cloud technology standards policy.
  • Conducts research on emerging cloud technologies in support of infrastructure development efforts and recommends technologies that will increase cost effectiveness and infrastructure flexibility.
  • Develops, documents, recommends, and communicates plans for investing in IT cloud infrastructure, including analysis of cost reduction opportunities.
  • May travel throughout the state of Colorado as required.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and three years of cloud infrastructure experience.
  • Experience directly supporting Windows and Linux based servers both in an on-premises VMware environment and in predominantly Azure cloud is highly desirable.
  • Current MCSA, MCITP Server Administrator, Azure Administrator, VMware VCP Cloud Management and Automation or RHCSA certification is preferred.
  • OR
  • Experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis as follows: graduation from high school or equivalent and four years working in computer related areas.
  • Three years of experience must be directly supporting Windows and Linux based servers both in an on-premises VMware environment and in predominantly Azure cloud.
  • Current MCSA, MCITP Server Administrator, Azure Administrator, VMware VCP Cloud Management and Automation or RHCSA certification is preferred.

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

This position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. The incumbent is required to stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The workload may require the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time. The incumbent must be able to read, do simple math calculations and withstand moderate amounts of stress.

The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
