Job description

Summary:

Gathers data and prepares documents required by government and regulatory agencies (US SEC, EU, FASB) for external financial reporting. Uses a formal process for appropriate data gathering, consolidation and analysis of financial data relative to the preparation of required regulatory filings, including but not limited to 10-Q, 10-K, 8-K, proxy statements and the annual report. Prepares cash flow statements, earnings release calculations, equity footnotes and other equity related disclosures. Ensures data integrity and proper accounting and with auditors who support the review and audit of regulatory filings. Gathers reference material concerning new and existing technical accounting literature to ensure compliance.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Reporting into Manager – Technical Accounting and SEC Reporting, Viavi is looking for a talented, highly motivated individual to join its financial reporting team specifically focused on Technical Accounting and SEC Reporting.  We are looking for a creative and confident self-starter who is a team player but also comfortable working autonomously.  The candidate must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) to establish credibility and facilitate an effective working relationship with a wide range of Company representatives including the Company’s leadership team.  Other critical skills include experience in sound business judgment, calibrating advice and strategy based on the Company’s risk tolerance, strong organization and prioritization/time management skills, attention to detail, strategic thinking, goal and team orientation and the ability to develop relationships with a variety of people at different levels and functions (accounting operations, tax, legal, investor relations, FP&A, and treasury) throughout the Company.

Responsibilities:

·     Strong understanding and application of US GAAP on all major accounting areas, especially around leases, debt accounting, goodwill and intangibles impairment assessment, segment reporting, EPS, investments, inventory, pension, leases, cash flows and business combinations; specifically, around valuation of goodwill/intangibles and purchase price accounting.

·     Assist with mergers and acquisitions, including financial due diligence, and divestitures as needed.

·     Work closely with process owners to update accounting policies to reflect or improve processes and ensure compliance with US GAAP.

·     Perform technical research on complex accounting issues, including drafting memos and position papers, and provide accounting consultation advice to business partners under US GAAP.

·     Assist in the Company’s financial reporting process, including external quarterly and annual reporting SEC filings (Form 10-Q, 10-K), earnings release reporting (Form 8-K, supplemental slides, and script review), other SEC filings (e.g., Form 8-K, Proxy), quarterly Audit Committee and Board of Directors reporting materials and other ad-hoc reporting as required.

·     Prepare month-end and quarter-end close activities for specific accounting areas.

·      Interface effectively with numerous individuals both inside and outside the Company, including the external auditors, to address and resolve accounting issues.

·     Remain current with new Technical Accounting standards, particularly those that impact financial reporting. Lead the group on disclosure implications and readiness on new standards.

·     Lead one-off technical accounting projects or respond to ad-hoc reporting requests as needed.

Qualifications:

·      BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience.

·      CPA or CA required.

·      At least 6+ years of relevant financial reporting experience with a mixture of both industry and Public accounting experience, primarily for publicly traded companies.

·      Equity Edge, Workiva (Wdesk) and XBRL experience preferred.

·      Knowledge of Oracle, Essbase and Hyperion preferred.

·      Strong understanding of US GAAP and SEC reporting regulations.
