Call for Statements of Interest:
Research Partner for Ukraine Case Study within Beyond Compliance Consortium
Center for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC) invites civil society organizations, national non-governmental organizations, and/or research institutes to express their interest in contributing to a qualitative research case study that will be undertaken in Ukraine as part of the Beyond Compliance Consortium. The goal of the research is identifying strategies that have the most potential to generate compliance with international law and restraint by armed actors—and more broadly, to facilitate fuller protection—in order to prevent, reduce, and respond to harm and need arising in armed conflict. CIVIC will be leading a case study on Ukraine for this project and is seeking a partner organization to co-design and implement the research project.
Project activities are already underway as part of multi-year project but partner activities are expected to begin in January 2025, with the majority of the work taking place by December 2025, but select lighter-touch activities continuing beyond this date.
Background:
The Beyond Compliance Consortium (BCC) comprises partners across nine academic, humanitarian and human rights organizations working in the fields of international law, political science, and humanitarian protection work. The BCC’s research work is funded by UK International Development.
CIVIC’s mission is to support communities affected by conflict in their quest for protection and strengthen the resolve and capacity of armed actors and relevant institutions to prevent and respond to civilian harm.
Activities:
Direct costs associated with undertaking these activities will be covered by CIVIC, subject to pre-approval of expenses. CIVIC and the partner will agree on work plans and staff time required to support successful delivery of the project and all staff working on the project will be paid in line with national standards, at rates agreed before commencement of the project.
