Working at Thinking Machines
Thinking Machines is a technology consultancy building AI & data platforms to solve high impact problems for our clients. Our vision is for Southeast Asia to become a global hub for data science. To do that, we create data cultures one organization at a time.
We’re a company made up of intellectually curious, civic-minded, forever-learning individuals. We believe that great data science products are built with care for people, and that the best way to drive inclusive innovation is to start with a diverse team.
Our field of work is incredibly dynamic, so we want to work with people who are committed to growing with us. We want to hire people who can demonstrate an ability to learn, then provide them with personalized coaching, growth opportunities, and a great working environment to get them to world-class.
Role Description
As a technology consultancy, our biggest asset is the people in our organization. People Operations champions our people, and includes every element that encourages employees to be successful, engaged, and fulfilled. Our work centers around how to truly operationalize the deep care that is embedded in our Company's culture.
At Thinking Machines, People Operations is a shared responsibility over the entire employee lifecycle. This means you will help the team to design and execute a great employee experience for a TM8’s first day, all the way through Alumnihood. You’ll be working with a kind, diverse, and talented group to ensure that our People Operations systems are running smoothly and providing the best care for our people.
We'd prefer a candidate who has worked at least two years in a related field to People Operations; ideally in an environment that requires discipline, detail orientation, problem-solving skills, project management skills, and grit to keep multiple work streams afloat in order to succeed. Given the breadth and speed we need a newcomer to operate on, we want someone who can draw from previous experiences, rather than have everything be completely new.
A big part of our work is to create policies, implementation mechanics, and communication plans. We need someone who can help us design these through discussions of underlying principles, and have an opinion rather than simply accepting things as they are.
Responsibilities
In TM, you will grow to be a People Operations generalist. As such, expect to be involved in various aspects of People Operations, growing the breadth of your exposure quickly within your first six months. While your responsibilities may grow along with the company, the following is an illustrative list of what you can expect initially:
- Designing and driving great employee experience and journey
- Maintaining and managing employee records and systems
- Executing internal PeopleOps processes and policies
- Organizing community-building events
- Liaising effectively with internal and external PeopleOps partners and stakeholders
- Crafting communication pieces for leadership, managers, and employees alike
- Supporting learning and development initiatives
- Creatively getting on-the-spot and ad-hoc tasks done to bridge support to our people
To accelerate your development, you will receive constant coaching and mentorship and be given access to company-sponsored external learning investments.
Role Requirements
We don't have a preference for where you went to school, or what you studied there. We do care about the following:
- Are you highly organized, precisely detail-oriented, and trustworthy?
- Can you think critically, research, and evaluate options across a variety of challenges?
- Can you design, propose, and spar around the spirit of policies with your teammates and managers?
- Do you enjoy taking in a lot of information, thinking through it, and then communicating a summary with recommendations?
- Do you receive feedback gracefully, and proactively evolve your ways of working and/or mindset based on it?
- Are you energized by tricky challenges, smart teammates, and a high-performance environment?
- Are you interested in thinking through difficult, potentially uncomfortable, people-related scenarios in order to grow as a People Operations professional?
Aside from these orientations, we also need you to have:
- High comfort level with Google Office Suite (Docs, Slides, Sheets, etc.)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills across various levels of stakeholders
- Experience in project planning and execution -- for example, for teambuilding events, or compliance / renewal projects
