SUMMARY:
The BioMarin Summer Internship Program will enable students to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the processes and systems within BioMarin, while gaining an insight into the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. Over the course of 10 - 12 weeks our interns gain industry experience while working alongside our talented team on meaningful projects.
BioMarin is the world leader in delivering therapeutics that provide meaningful advances to patients who live with serious and life-threatening rare genetic diseases. We target diseases that lack effective therapies and affect relatively small numbers of patients, many of whom are children. These conditions are often inherited, difficult to diagnose, progressively debilitating and have few, if any, treatment options. BioMarin will continue to focus on advancing therapies that are the first or best of their kind.
Business and Corporate Development plays a critical role in the strategic growth of BioMarin by leading corporate strategy initiatives and executing to various types of transactions (e.g., licensing, M&A, partnership efforts) to shape our pipeline.
BioMarin is seeking a self-starter and results-oriented individual who is looking to gain hands-on, real-world experience as part of the Business Development (BD) team. We are looking for someone with both a strong fit with BioMarin’s mission and culture along with the necessary research and analytical skills.
The intern will work closely with a senior member of BMRN’s BD team to define the therapeutic landscape for one or more indications, identify and assess key assets within the space that align with BioMarin’s strategy, and drive to a recommendation on the attractiveness of each opportunity for BMRN. A successful candidate has the ability to engage both with deep scientific thinking and the business needs that drive our organization and should be curious and driven to answer questions thoroughly.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Secondary / primary research to map the therapeutic landscape for indications of specific interest to BioMarin, using industry databases and other resources
- Secondary / primary research for asset evaluation, including review of scientific publications, analyst reports, Key Opinion Leader interviews, etc.
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders to define key landscape and program catalysts for continued monitoring
- Report generation (e.g. PowerPoint presentation) to capture landscape and asset evaluation, as well as the project’s recommendations
Required Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Outlook and PowerPoint)
- Able to collect and synthesize a wide range of scientific and clinical information
- Must be a self-starter, comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
- Organized and capable of multi-tasking. Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to produce quality deliverables and motivated to work with tight deadlines
- Excels at working collaboratively with others
- Innovative thinking and analysis
- Passionate about learning about business development in a high pace environment
Qualifications/Eligibility:
- Student currently enrolled in a relevant Graduate program (Master’s/MBA/PhD/MD)
- Must be available to work full time, 40 hours a week.
- Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited U.S. based university or college and enrolled in the fall term after the completion of the internship OR have graduated within 1 year of the start of the program.
- Must be able to relocate if necessary and work at the designated site for the duration of the internship for on-site, hybrid roles. Some positions will be open to remote interns, but employee must be within United States borders.

In the U.S., the salary range for this position is $30 to $50 per hour, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
