Mach Industries is seeking a dedicated and experienced Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager to lead and manage our EHS programs and initiatives. As an EHS Manager, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of our employees while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a culture of safety at our Huntington Beach facility, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with environmental and occupational health and safety standards.
This role requires a proactive leader who will collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement, enforce, and continuously improve our safety practices and procedures. The EHS Manager will also oversee cross-entity priorities, policies, and procedures, and ensure continuous improvement across all EHS activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Leadership & Culture:
Lead and promote a proactive safety culture by working closely with all employees. Actively participate in safety training, safety committee meetings, and lead by example to ensure a safe work environment.
Compliance & Regulation:
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal EHS regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and other applicable safety standards. Oversee all safety audits, inspections, and assessments to guarantee adherence to relevant regulations.
Policy & Procedure Development:
Develop, update, and implement EHS policies and procedures. Ensure that all policies are communicated to employees and that proper training is conducted to ensure understanding and adherence.
EHS Training:
Coordinate and deliver ongoing EHS training programs, including new hire safety orientation, emergency response procedures, and specific hazard-related training for various departments. Ensure training programs are up-to-date and relevant.
Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment:
Lead regular safety hazard analyses, risk assessments, and incident investigations. Work with teams to implement corrective and preventive actions to mitigate risks.
Incident Management:
Manage all safety incidents, ensuring timely root cause analysis and resolution. Lead the process for tracking, investigating, and reporting on workplace incidents and near misses.
Workplace Inspections & Audits:
Conduct regular facility inspections to identify hazards and non-compliance issues. Collaborate with teams to resolve any safety concerns or non-compliance findings from audits or inspections.
Chemical & Hazardous Materials Management:
Oversee the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and waste. Ensure compliance with chemical management standards, including Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and hazardous waste regulations.
Emergency Response & Preparedness:
Maintain and regularly update emergency action plans, including fire prevention, spill response, and other emergency protocols. Ensure all employees are trained on emergency procedures.
Sustainability & Environmental Compliance:
Develop and implement strategies for reducing the company's environmental footprint, ensuring compliance with environmental laws and regulations. Oversee waste management and recycling efforts, and ensure proper handling of air emissions, water discharges, and hazardous waste.
Continuous Improvement:
Develop metrics and KPIs to track EHS performance and progress. Work with senior leadership to create actionable plans for improving safety performance. Propose improvements to safety programs based on audit findings, incident data, and regulatory changes.
Cross-Entity Oversight:
Provide daily oversight of cross-entity EHS priorities, policies, and procedures. Collaborate with other teams to identify risks, ensure timely remediation, and coordinate audits across various business functions.
EHS Program Management:
Develop, implement, and sustain various EHS program tasks and activities, including industrial hygiene, biosafety, ergonomics, process safety, environmental compliance, EHS inspections, fire protection, loss control, hazardous waste management, and assisting with EHS committees.
Inspection & Risk Assessment:
Inspect the facility regularly to identify safety, health, and environmental risks. Develop and implement inspection policies and schedules to ensure continuous monitoring.
Workers' Compensation & Safety Incident Management:
Oversee workers' compensation case management, analyze accident data, and review new processes or machinery for potential safety concerns. Conduct job hazard analyses and safety analyses for new tasks or machinery.
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field (Associate’s degree may be acceptable with equivalent experience).
Minimum of 3 years of experience managing EHS programs, with a strong understanding of safety and environmental regulations.
Proven track record in risk assessments, incident investigation, and EHS program management.
Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, environmental compliance requirements, and hazardous materials management.
Experience leading and managing a team.
Ability to manage hands-on engagement at the plant floor level while coordinating with cross-functional teams.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle sensitive safety issues.
Experience in workers’ compensation case management and safety incident reporting.
Preferred:
Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or OSHA certifications.
Previous experience in a manufacturing environment, especially related to machinery, heavy equipment, or industrial safety.
Strong understanding of California-specific EHS regulations.
Experience with environmental sustainability practices and initiatives.
Strong communication, teamwork, and customer focus skills.
