Position Summary
Appraises material damage claims and total losses as received by assignment. Negotiates settlement of claims and disposes of salvage within authority.
- This is a remote, work from home position
- The selected candidate will ideally reside in Adams, Cumberland, Juniata, Mifflin, Perry, York County, or the close surrounding areas.
- The hiring manager will also consider candidates for Material Damage Adjuster II. Level of position offered will be based upon the depth and breadth of selected candidate's experience and qualifications.
- The successful candidate is required to have a valid PA Motor Vehicle Physical Damage Appraiser License.
- A company car and equipment to work from home will be provided
- Good time management and organization skills preferred
- Ability to drive/travel regularly within the assigned territory
Duties and Responsibilities
- Makes arrangements with repair shops, Policyholders or claimants to inspect vehicles. Photographs damaged areas and writes estimates on all claims when necessary. Determines rental needs and controls costs according to company guidelines.
- Negotiates with repair shops on cost of repairs. Establishes value and settles total losses. Handles disposal of salvage within authority.
- Distinguishes cause of damage for appropriate policy coverage.
- Issues settlement checks and keeps appropriate records.
- Establishes rapport with Agents and claims adjusters.
- Contacts Policyholders and claimants regarding complaints stemming from original adjustment.
- Attends appropriate training sessions.
- Handles all material damage claims as assigned.
- At the request of Underwriting, evaluates antique and classic cars for coverage value.

Qualifications
Minimum Educational and Experience Requirements
- High school diploma, or GED, required.
- Two years of experience in body shop, general claims handling OR completion of formal ERIE training program, required.
Additional Experience
- Incumbent must live in territory assigned unless a change is approved by the company.
- Position requires the incumbent to serve on the catastrophe duty, which may include travel on short notice to other locations for periods in excess of two consecutive weeks.
Designations and/or Licenses
- Completion of General Insurance program preferred.
- Willingness to obtain and maintain any required licenses.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record required.
