The Role and Responsibilities


We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join us in what is an exciting time for our business. Responsibilities will include:


  • Work with data engineers & analysts to problem solve, build & deliver data products from ideation to production.
  • Lead and own the full lifecycle of data engineering deliverables.
  • Deliver complex data flows to process external data sources to provide the company with a competitive edge.
  • Act as a consultant to the business to meet their needs.
  • Maintain existing data solutions to ensure reliability and high data quality to maximise the utility of data within the business.
  • Innovate by recommending opportunities to improve data engineering tooling & process.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to more junior colleagues.
  • Lead workshops to knowledge share and upskill colleagues in both technical and business domains.


Skills and experience


Essential


  • Proven experience working in Data Engineering.
  • Proven experience working with Azure & Databricks Data Platform technology stacks, including:


Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS Gen2)

Azure SQL (PaaS)

Azure Data Factory (ADF)

Azure Databricks (incl. Python coding)

Azure Functions


  • Proven experience of using data modelling techniques relevant in Data Warehousing / Business Intelligence contexts (such as Kimball and Data Vault)
  • Proven experience with understanding business requirements and translating these into technical deliverables.
  • Ability to create a strong relationship with stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Self-starter with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work to tight delivery timescales and to take on new information working with a remote team.
  • Proven experience developing optimal and reliable ETL processes to ingest & process data from a wide variety of data sources (both structured and unstructured), implementing them both for batch and real-time scenarios in cloud environments.
  • Proven experience of maintaining & supporting existing data solutions in Production environments, identifying improvement opportunities, investigating and resolving incidents, and monitoring to ensure SLAs are met


Desirable


Experience working with the Microsoft Business Intelligence (BI) tools such as Power BI, SSAS (Tabular), SSIS and SSRS


  • Experience working with DevOps & CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience of working as part of Agile (Scrum or Kanban) delivery teams
  • Knowledge of PowerShell Scripting
