Job description

We’re hiring a Writer/Analyst to join our daily Briefings team at EMARKETER.

EMARKETER is for people who are passionate, driven, curious and always striving to deliver excellence for our clients. Our mission is to unlock digital opportunities for our clients with the world’s most trusted forecasts, analysis, and benchmarks. Our team members embody EMARKETER’s core values: we serve our clients, we work as one team, we innovate and adapt, and we celebrate diversity and inclusion.

The Role and Team:

EMARKETER’s Briefings are a suite of subscription newsletters authored by industry analysts, reaching tens of thousands of business professionals, primarily within the marketing and advertising industries, every day. We are looking for a seasoned writer with knowledge of major marketing and advertising trends to write short-form content about how technology is transforming the marketing & media landscape for EMARKETER’s Marketing & Advertising Briefing. We cover everything from social media, video streaming, and podcasting to retail, new ad formats, ad buying, and brand marketing. We don’t expect you to be an expert in all of these topics, but we’re looking for someone with strong familiarity in some of these areas.

This is a hybrid role working from our New York City HQ at One Liberty Plaza two times a week.

The ideal candidate is:

  • Passionate about the worlds of media and marketing, who possesses strong familiarity in one or more of our key topic areas of coverage.
  • An exceptional explainer with a knack for figuring out what’s most important in business news and communicating it simply and concisely for a business audience.
  • An innovator who isn’t afraid to challenge ideas to make our content better, explore untapped content opportunities, and ideate and execute new content concepts.
  • Data-driven with the ability to quickly sort through masses of data, find interesting trends, and convey them in a digestible way.
  • Team-oriented, who thrives in a fast-paced and rapidly changing collaborative environment.
  • A digital trends enthusiast with an understanding of core themes in digital transformation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pitch, research, and produce insightful and data-driven analyses in a daily newsletter product centered on the marketing & media landscape.
  • Create engaging data-centric charts and graphics that support your analysis and help tell stories.
  • Understand the unique needs of a business audience in roles spanning brands, marketing, ad platforms, agencies & consultancies.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest current events by conducting research, attending events, etc
  • Establish a network of industry contacts to tap for future research.
  • The writer/analyst of the Marketing & Advertising Briefing will be responsible for writing up to 3 short-form articles each day (300-400 words) and ad hoc content around newsbreaking events. This person will also contribute to long-form research reports on big company earnings each quarter.

Desired skills and experience:

  • Proven experience conducting research in the media and marketing space, and professional writing experience.
  • Writing experience on a daily product
  • Experience writing succinct market research, preferably for a business audience
  • Proficiency in MS Excel
  • Data visualization skills are a huge plus
  • Experience with public speaking at media conferences/events, or an interest in developing this skill

Salary & Benefits

  • Base salary: $75,000-$80,000 (dependent on skills, experience, and competencies)
  • Additional commission
  • Unlimited PTO, 10 paid holidays, and 16 weeks of parental leave
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance plans
  • Matched and vested 401k plan
  • Access to resources for financial planning guidance, family planning services, mental health reachout and Employee Assistance Programs (EAP)
  • Additional benefits include commuter benefits, phone reimbursement, gym membership discounts, and more
