Today, Kajabi serves over 60,000 customers. To get to our next stage of growth, we need to significantly increase Kajabi’s visibility with reporters, influencers, & creators - we need to raise broad awareness for who Kajabi is, what we stand for, & who we serve, and establish ourselves as the leader in Creator Commerce. As the Director of External Communications, reporting to our Chief Marketing Officer, you will spearhead our company’s external communications strategy, and will be a crucial leader in growing Kajabi’s presence in the market & helping to lead us to our next phase of growth.
We are looking for a strategic Communications leader who is passionate about storytelling & the creator space, and who can help us strengthen Kajabi’s brand, elevate our visibility, & establish Kajabi as the leader in Creator Commerce. The Head of Communications will develop, own, & execute against our overarching external communication strategy that spans PR, thought leadership, & executive visibility. This leader will be responsible for: identifying the strategic levers that will best drive awareness & understanding of Kajabi; crafting our company narrative & translating it into compelling & memorable messaging; building strong relationships with media & influencers; and securing high-impact coverage, placements, & speaking opportunities. This individual will partner across the organization to ensure that our communications strategy supports & amplifies our brand campaigns & product launches, helping to fuel interest in Kajabi & our products.
This Job Involves
- Overseeing all aspects of external communications (with support from a PR agency), including media relations, thought leadership, & executive visibility.
- Developing & implementing a strategic communications strategy that is aligned with our company & marketing strategy & goals, and establishes Kajabi as the leader in Creator Commerce.
- Crafting a company narrative (working closely with the CEO, CMO, & other leaders) that tells the story of who Kajabi is, what we stand for, & what sets us apart in the creator economy, and establishes our leadership position.
- Developing compelling pitches & stories that tells Kajabi’s story in a way that resonates with media, influencers, partners, & thought leaders. Engaging in a range of stories, from product & company news, to data-driven stories, to creator stories.
- Creating owned content, such as announcements, thought leadership pieces, presentations, & op-eds, including getting alignment with senior leaders.
- Building & cultivating relationships with top-tier media outlets, journalists, and influencers to secure robust media coverage, speaking opportunities, & partnerships.
- Monitoring & analyzing media coverage and industry trends, and identifying implications for Kajabi.
- Establishing trusted relationships with the CEO and other senior leaders. Understanding how to best leverage each individual, and crafting a year-long strategy for up-leveling visibility of key leaders & their stories with reporters, on LinkedIn, at conferences, etc.
- Partnering closely with the Marketing team to build a strong tie-in between our Communications strategy & our Marketing strategy, and to align our messaging across channels. Influencing & strengthening marketing campaign themes, messaging, & other aspects of our Marketing strategy by applying an external comms lens.
- Managing the relationship with our PR agency.
About You
- 10+ years of experience developing, leading, & executing PR & strategic communications initiatives for technology companies, with a combination of agency & in-house experience. Category creation experience is a plus.
- Passionate storyteller with a knack for developing powerful & compelling narratives. Exceptional at crafting & pitching both data-driven stories (e.g., leveraging first party data) & creator-driven stories (e.g., success stories of our Heroes).
- Strategic & creative thinker who comes up with innovative ideas that align with company strategy & drive real business results.
- Proven track record of executing successful communications campaigns that secure top-tier coverage & high-impact placements and deliver measurable results.
- Agility to pivot & capitalize on unexpected or emerging news moments.
- Excited to both drive strategic direction and to roll up their sleeves to get things done.
- Ability to influence CEOs & senior leaders, including providing strategic counsel and identifying thought leadership opportunities.
- Deep experience working with PR agencies, and developing collaborative partnerships that propel the business forward.
- Has a strong network of media contacts built on meaningful & trusted relationships.
- Excellent partner, who values teamwork & collaboration.
- Analytic mindset, with experience leveraging data to uncover insights & tell stories, as well as to measure the impact of external communications efforts.

- This role will need to be in the office for in-person collaboration 3-4 times a quarter and therefore is best situated in the Western Time zones.
