As a Senior Software Development Manager, you will lead a team of software engineers within Mobility Engineering. Our highly autonomous team embraces Agile development principles and follows an embedded DevOps model to manage the entire software lifecycle—from development to release, maintenance, and operations.

In this role as a senior development lead, you’ll be involved in planning, designing, developing, and testing software systems or applications for enhancements and new projects. Our tech stack includes Java, Spring Boot, APIs, and SQL.

How you’ll make an impact
Focus on backend development, including integrations and the API suite.
Spend at least 50% of your time contributing to coding, design, development, testing, and code reviews.
Lead a high-performing backend development team spread across the US and Brazil.
Collaborate with business stakeholders, solution architects, and product managers to understand requirements, prioritize tasks, and develop high-quality solutions.
Manage production on-call support, handling incident triage, RCA (Root Cause Analysis), troubleshooting, and code fixes.
Create, prioritize, communicate, and manage roadmaps, project plans, and commitments.
Report to management on development, quality, operations, and system performance.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement through mentoring, feedback, and metrics, while adopting best practices.
Lead and mentor the scrum team, stepping into the role of Scrum Master when necessary.
Promote test-driven development and take responsibility for any stage of the software development lifecycle as needed.
Experience you’ll bring
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
10+ years of hands-on experience developing applications in Java.
3+ years of experience managing teams.
Expertise in backend services, APIs, data processing, and web applications (Spring Boot, GraphQL, REST).
Proficiency in designing and developing event-driven microservices architectures using Docker, Kubernetes, and Kafka.
Strong skills in data engineering, ingestion, storage, processing, and databases (SQL, Postgres, Liquibase).
Experience with technical design and user story creation (JIRA, Confluence).
Familiarity with production on-call support.
Demonstrable CI/CD experience with exposure to DevOps.
Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Commitment to continuous improvement and a passion for automation.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of building strong relationships across diverse organizations.

Experience with AWS cloud services.
Familiarity with test automation frameworks for Java (e.g., Cucumber, Robot).

The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan. Pay Range: $162,000.00 - $215,000.00
