Principal Structural Analysis Engineer (Stress)

Position Summary

Thales is looking for a Principal Structural Analysis Engineer (Stress) serves as primary technical professional for the complex structural analysis in the development of aircraft monuments and engineering design developed by the Aircraft Installation Engineering team. This position will entail the development of detail analysis, creation of documentation and substantiation reports, and general coordination of stress analysis.

In this position, your responsibilities will also include liaison with external stakeholders (Avionics authority, Boeing, Airbus, suppliers, and test labs).

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Responsible for the preliminary analysis on design solutions affecting the aircraft structure and /or weight in coordination with FAA regulations. Static strength assessment, and damage tolerance assessment using both manual analysis and finite element analysis modelling. Use NASTRAN to develop FEM models to submit to aircraft OEMs. Complete Interface Loads Analysis and Structural Substantiation Reports of Thales monuments/designs as per Boeing/Airbus requirements and templates.
  • Perform Aircraft flight and ground loads analyses, and preparation of a required FAA certification loads report. Provide support to the engineering team in the preparation of material for presentation at design and program reviews
  • Responsible for the preparation of the FAA required aircraft type certification reports showing compliance with the appropriate FAA or Foreign regulations on all structural components by either analysis or test. Review drawings, specifications, service bulletins, reports, etc. for compliance with applicable regulations. Oversees the execution of static or fatigue tests of structural components, prepare test procedures, observe and document static or fatigue test results in coordination with FAA type certification report.
  • Document compliance with the applicable regulations covering the structural strength, crash protection, interiors, basic loads, weight balance, stress analysis, static test, and evaluation of the processes and fabrication methods required to produce aircraft structure. Analysis or test of flight test instrumentation racks, test equipment, etc. to Company Engineering Policy requirements. Responsible for the preparation of the Company required equipment lists for each aircraft model.
  • Provide support to the Integrated Product Team in the preparation of material for presentation at design and program reviews. Lead internal and external milestone meetings to discuss/present Thales structural analysis. Create SOWs for and manage external engineer services to complete structural analysis (as necessary).
  • Interface with Boeing and Airbus IFE Modules to support Thales’ design and substantiation. Mentor and guide the mechanical engineering team in the understanding of the structural analysis of aircraft structures.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering. Seven (7) years in structural analyses, test and design or equivalent education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) 21 and 25. Track record in working with aircraft with respect to structure, materials and processes specifications, and certification requirements.
  • Strong ownership of tasks, and can operate effectively and autonomously across multiple entities, with only high-level technical direction. Have excellent interpersonal written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate technical issues in an assertive and tactful manner.
  • Comfortable to work with remote teams. Strong work ethic and drive to succeed with a strong sense of accountability and integrity.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding atmosphere.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite.
