Job description

We are looking for one (1) Construction Estimator to join our great Jones Sign team.  This position is listed in various cities as we are open to a remote Construction Estimator based on qualifications and experience.  

Position Summary:   

As a Construction Estimator you will assertively work with subcontractors and internal Jones Sign resources while compiling specifications, drawings, and proposals to bid on custom architectural projects throughout the U.S.  

You will be responsible for evaluating bid specifications and drawings, ensuring all data is gathered in accordance with bid timelines to successfully submit project bids and win custom concrete, glass, and architectural metal fabrication projects. You will send requests for proposals, track and aggressively follow up with subcontractors to ensure bids are received, reviewed thoroughly, and analyzed in a timely manner to meet projects scope of work and specifications.  

Duties & Expectations:   

  • Analyze requirement documents, blueprints, and project plans to understand the project and scope of work thoroughly.
  • Set up pre-bid meetings with each salesperson to understand the project and the scope of work from the sales perspective.
  • Investigate, study, and compile square footage, special materials, and quantity take-offs from the documents.
  • Read the bid documents to understand the project's parameters, such as Union and PLA requirements, diversity, bonding, site conditions, timelines, etc.
  • Compile and submit RFI's.
  • Prepare the material estimates, equipment, buy-out, and subcontract costs. The bill of materials.
  • Meet with internal manufacturing and installation leads to understand each department's hours.
  • Create labor estimates for each product by the manufacturing departments.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with company vendors and subcontractors. 
  • Always find and source new products, along with new methods for manufacturing or installation.
  • Manage bids from vendors and contractors. Ensure to get three prices and vet the best source using price and quality as determinators.
  • Write out all bid clarifications detailing the exact scope of work your pricing is predicated upon. Show inclusions and exclusions within this detail.
  • Set up a final price review meeting with management and sales to review the estimate.

Qualifications:   

●       5+ years of preconstruction estimating experience preferred 

●       Coursework in business, construction, manufacturing, logistics and project management; Bachelor’s degree preferred. 

●       Experience in bidding, contract development, value engineering and negotiation 

●       Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and written, with internal and external resources 

●       Experienced reading and interpreting construction documents, conceptual renderings, and detailed blueprints 

●       Knowledge and experience working with large subcontractors and general contractors 

●       Develop relationships with both our clients and our subcontractors. 

●       Prior field experience is a big plus, it gives you the knowledge and understanding needed to efficiently read a set of plans and accurately prepare each bid proposal. 

●       Ability to work autonomously with a strong sense of prioritization and organizational processes 

●       Proficient in MS Office Suite, Bluebeam and/or other takeoff software system 

●       Strong focus on accuracy and attention to details. 

●       Strong problem solving, analytical and decision-making skills.
