The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Science & Health Advisor supporting our National Center office that is located in Dallas, TX. This role can be home based.

 

This is a full time, benefits eligible, grant funded opportunity. Current funding will expire on June 30, 2028, with the possibility of extension.

 

The Science & Health Advisor will oversee the outpatient portfolio of certification programs and all business functions including development, implementation, revision, and management of programs including projections, budget, grant, and expense management. This grant funded position relies on scientifically sound certification criteria and professional experience in developing healthcare certification programs to develop certification standards criteria aligned with market need and organizational values. The Senior Manager oversees endeavors including marketing materials, campaigns, and deliverables to funders.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the recruitment, engagement, and management of the volunteer workgroup for each healthcare certification. The workgroup provides direction and feedback to the program development team regarding recommendations for certification standards, measures, and evaluation.
  • Manage oversight and coordinate operational and logistical deliverables, as well as collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and vendors to make certification available.
  • Oversee the build process for the platforms needed to advance the professional certifications. Work with vendors to enhance the user experience as well as creating integrated reporting functions and audit processes. 
  • Support and partner with internal teams working to develop and improve new and current programs.
  • Foster and manage relationships with external collaborating organizations, expert volunteers, and internal cross-functional teams to develop supplementary program materials and legal documents.
  • Design, continuously evaluate, and audit certification processes to maximize certification efficacy to maintain the integrity and continuity of certification processes. Routine quality improvement exercises are conducted to promote program efficiency and process efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the Certification Evaluation Team to draft measurable standards that align with scientific evidence and are approved by volunteer subject matter expert workgroup members.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 5-8 years of relevant clinical experience
  • Experience in healthcare, healthcare education, or in a public health-related organization: clinical, quality improvement, program development, professional development, and systems improvement
  • Project management experience; experienced in influencing performance without direct line accountability
  • Program development experience: proven experience in programmatic development to function well in a fast-paced, highly stressed, and visible environment
  • Skilled in recruiting, training, and developing volunteers to lead and support organizational goals, fostering trust, engagement, and a sense of belonging while effectively aligning volunteer talents with strategic objectives to inspire impactful change
  • Proficient knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office used for word processing, email, presentations, and spreadsheets
  • Ability to travel up to 20% and overnight stay

 

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in nursing, biology, business administration, public health, or other healthcare related fields.
  • Experience in hospital or outpatient certification programs including drafting standards proposed by subject matter experts.

 

Compensation & Benefits:

The expected pay range will be $100,000 to $130,000. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply.
