Job description

About Starburst

At Starburst, we are working to dismantle the status quo of data silos and vendor lock-in every single day. For decades, database companies have held their customers hostage and we believe that’s just plain wrong. Starburst offers a full-featured data lake analytics platform, built on open source Trino. Our platform includes all the capabilities needed to discover, organize, and consume data without the need for time-consuming and costly migration projects. Today more than 300 leading organizations trust us to make better decisions faster.

Though Starburst has raised $414M in venture funding from top investors, we were founded in a rather unusual way as we bootstrapped the business with customers and revenue from the very beginning! We are a remote-first company with employees all over the world and are proud to be named a Best Place to Work. Come join our team of All-Stars!

About the role

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Marketing to lead our marketing efforts across the EMEA region. Ideally based from London or the surrounding area, this role will be pivotal in driving Starburst’s growth and market presence within EMEA. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in B2B enterprise software marketing, with a focus on demand generation, partner marketing, ABM and regional market expansion.

As a Director of Marketing at Starburst you will:
  • Marketing Strategy Development: Lead the creation and execution of a comprehensive marketing strategy for the EMEA region. Analyse market trends to prioritise key initiatives that drive pipeline growth and brand awareness.
  • Collaboration with Sales and Partners: Work closely with sales, partner, and growth marketing teams to develop and execute integrated marketing plans. Ensure alignment across territories to optimise pipeline coverage and acceleration.
  • Demand Generation: Design and implement multi-touch, multi-channel marketing programs that drive demand and lead generation. Manage regional marketing programs to meet pipeline, awareness, and customer retention objectives across all market segments.
  • Regional Expansion: Leverage Starburst’s initial footprint in the EMEA region to identify and pursue expansion opportunities with high-value customers through targeted efforts, including events and Account-Based Marketing (ABM) strategies.
  • Event Management: Oversee the planning and execution of regional events, both physical and virtual, including third-party and Starburst-owned events. Ensure these events contribute to pipeline growth and market presence.
  • Data-Driven Marketing: Collaborate with marketing operations to ensure the foundational data infrastructure supports the successful execution of regional programs. Utilise analytics to measure performance, track key metrics, and communicate progress to leadership.
  • Communication and Alignment: Maintain regular communication with sales and account management teams regarding marketing activities, new initiatives, and asset delivery. Participate in territory planning sessions to ensure marketing efforts align with sales goals.
  • Partner Marketing: Work with partner sales and marketing teams to deliver a diverse portfolio of marketing programs across the sales cycle, with a focus on pipeline generation and market maturation.
  • Leadership and Team Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a best-in-class marketing team in EMEA. Foster a high-energy, results-driven culture that supports Starburst’s growth objectives.

  • Some of the things we look for:
  • Experience: 5+ years in field marketing or a similar role within B2B enterprise software marketing, particularly in a complex technology environment. Proven success in leading teams and executing multi-channel programs that drive demand and ROI.
  • Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with sales and marketing teams, supporting the delivery of GTM and partner strategies.
  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling marketing content and convey information to diverse audiences.
  • Innovation: A creative mindset with the ability to innovate in taking Starburst’s message to market while maintaining brand integrity.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with marketing automation tools such as Marketo and Salesforce.com. Strong understanding of B2B sales cycles, demand creation, and performance management systems.
  • Leadership: Proven track record in leading and developing high-performing teams. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with a focus on detail and execution.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field is preferred.

  • Preferred Skills and Knowledge:
  • Regional Market Knowledge: Deep understanding of the EMEA market dynamics, customer behavior, and competitive landscape.
  • Partner Marketing: Experience in developing partner relationships and marketing programs that enhance market reach and sales effectiveness.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse sales and marketing performance data, build dashboards, and track key metrics.

  • Where could this role be based?
  • London, UK (Hybrid 2-3 days per week in the office)
  • Willingness to travel within the EMEA region as needed, approximately 20%.
  • Why build your career at Starburst?

We live by our three core company values: Character, Competence, and Ownership and are a team of top performers. We are each in the driver’s seat, shaping our organization and working together towards our common mission. We are solving exceptionally complex and meaningful challenges here and as we innovate, we each have the opportunity to build our careers alongside Starbursts’s growth.

We take care of our global workforce by making sure employees enjoy competitive salaries and attractive stock grants, remote-friendly work options, flexible paid time off, and more!

We are committed to fostering an intentional, inclusive, and diverse culture that drives deep engagement, authentic belonging, and an exceptional All-Star experience. We believe that diversity of thought, perspective, background and experience will enable us to own what we do, drive our success and empower our All-Stars to show up for one another authentically in all moments that matter.
