Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) design engineering organization generates technical requirements and associated design parameters for the modular advanced light water reactor (ALWR) NSSS. Utilizing proven state-of-the-art methodologies NSSS components are engineered to nuclear industry standards. The person in this position performs design related activities for ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) Section III Subsection NB, NG, and NF components. All work within the NSSS Component Engineering organization is completed under ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements and respective U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Possesses excellent knowledge in functional discipline and its practical application and has detailed knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards and regulations.
  • Prepare and/or review engineering specifications, CAD models, and other documentation that communicate the design and technical aspects of components, systems, and structures associated with the NSSS.
  • Possesses working knowledge of CAD packages.
  • Interprets scope and project requirements.
  • Acquires, maintains and develops training qualifications. Provides guidance and mentoring to other staff members in all areas of NSSS Component Design.
  • Interacts with co-workers and other disciplines to promote effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems. Individuals should be interested in acquiring general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields in order to function on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Quality Assurance:  Commits to the understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and ASME NQA-1.

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:

  • Education: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, from a four year ABET accredited college or university is required. An advanced degree is preferred. A professional engineer (P.E.) certification is required. Certifying Engineer experience to ASME BPVC Section III is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of 15 years of full-time relevant working experience is required. Candidates must be able to demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience with engineering design, in the nuclear industry (i.e., ASME Section III).
  • Industry Requirements:  Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Pay and Benefits: 

The target pay range for this position is $145,952 - $176,149 annually.  The full pay range is $130,854 – $204,668.
