The Job:  

As an AME Global Safety Systems Engineer, you’ll be part of our XXX team working as a remote employee. You’ll get to:  

  • Establish standards for the most common global equipment functional safety systems
  • Conduct assessments on the proficiency of key equipment vendors relative to overall safety systems design capabilities and generate development plans as appropriate
  • Identify global best practices relative to equipment safety and drive the implementation of these processes (both manufacturing and administrative) globally where appropriate.
  • Provide technical oversight to both internal and external integrators on equipment functional safety systems to meet all local and global standards (internal & external) including:
    • Certified component selection where required
    • Compliant programming logic
    • Adequate egress and access points
    • Lead standardization through specification of standard components
    • Proper lock-out standards for maintenance activity
  • Support all new equipment capital projects by providing input in advance of requests for funding and executing comprehensive risk assessments on all safety systems prior to PO release
  • Establish acceptance criteria and lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) on all new equipment purchases globally
  • Support manufacturing locations with Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) either remotely through adequately proficient site engineers or in person as needed
  • Support any identified issues with safety systems on existing equipment and facilitate the most appropriate and expedient corrective actions as needed
  • Identify knowledge gaps within manufacturing locations and develop and administer upskilling plans appropriately
  • Engage with corporate safety resources to stay abreast of all applicable industry regulations and standards relative to equipment safety
  • Stay abreast of technology and innovation developments relative to manufacturing equipment and functional safety systems integration.  Bring forward and coordinate with regional leads to apply where relevant.

The Person:

  • BS Degree or equivalent in an Engineering field or similar related field.
  • Functional Safety certifications a plus.
  • Minimum of five (5) years industry experience in roles with hands on equipment integration.
  • Capable to read and interpret electrical schematics and 2D drawings.
  • Ability to understand, generate and manipulate PLC programming logic.
  • Working understanding of relevant industry machine safety standards (OSHA, ANSI, ISO, IEC, NFPA 70 & 79, etc)
  • Hands-on experience with key functional safety systems components (e-stops, light curtains, scanners, safety PLCs, interface relays, HMIs etc)
  • Able to independently project manage multiple projects in parallel to meet critical timelines.
  • Possess a high attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc)
  • Strong capability to effectively communicate across all levels of the organization via both oral and written methods.
  • Results orientated and driven to learn and accept challenge.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and patience in the face of adversity.
  • Must be able to work with a global team including remote design and manufacturing centers.
  • Potential for international and domestic travel up to 40%
