Job description

BASIC Payroll is seeking a Payroll Tax Specialist to join their fully remote team. 

BASIC Payroll provides high-touch payroll services to businesses nationwide. As a sister entity of TASC, BASIC Payroll has a long history of bringing game-changing solutions to the benefits field. 

As a Payroll Tax Specialist, you are responsible for the filing of payroll tax forms, the remitting of outstanding liabilities and research/resolution of taxing agency notices and correspondence.

Qualified candidates will possess: 

  • Preferably, a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college and/or equivalent work experience 
  • A minimum of 3 years of payroll tax experience 
  • A strong working knowledge of multi-state and local taxation
  • Experience working with database systems, Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel 

Position Responsibilities:  

  • Reconcile client taxes for assigned client base and make corrections as needed 
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax issues for federal, state and local taxing authorities 
  • Correspond with tax agencies in writing and verbally as necessary 
  • Ensure client taxes were setup correctly through daily, monthly, and quarterly tax audits 
  • Maintain payroll tax files and records 
  • Process timely and accurate payroll tax payments and filings with appropriate federal, state and local agencies 
  • Reconcile payroll taxes, wages, monthly, quarterly, annual, and third party pay 
  • Reconcile W2s to validate wage and tax information 
  • Research and resolve discrepancies identified by Federal, State, and Local tax agencies 
  • Respond to team member inquires and questions as necessary 
  • Ensure compliance with tax changes as required
