Job description

AAA Life is seeking a Life Insurance Underwriter that will, analyze, evaluate and classify risk for life insurance applications. This underwriter will determine whether to approve, modify or decline a risk through evaluation of an individual's medical history or physical condition, occupational hazards, financial background, insurable interest and other information pertinent to the decision. Has contact with the field sales team, customers and vendors to gather information on which to base decisions. Has authority to approve cases up to specific standard and substandard limits.

Note:

  • Mortgage underwriting experience will NOT be considered


Position Responsibilities

  • Reviews for acceptance or denial, assigned life applications with limited history and face amounts up to $250k fully underwritten to age 50; $300k any age simplified life products.
  • Determines and assures that appropriate information necessary to fulfill underwriting requirements has been requested such as; re-examinations, special exams, medical reports, database research, investigations and laboratory studies
  • Interprets MIB codes, and prepares data and reports to the Medical Information Bureau, which involves knowledge of MIB code meanings and procedures.
  • Provide support for contract change and reinstatement underwriting that may be required.


Requirements

  • College level coursework in Business Administration or related field, preferred
  • LOMA I, LOMA II, and LOMA 310 required. ALU 101, preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in financial services and/or medical industry
  • Familiar with life insurance company policies, practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of insurance contracts and forms
  • Knowledge of life records
  • Knowledge of MIB (Medical Information Bureau) rules and procedures
  • Knowledge of medical conditions and impairments preferred
  • Some knowledge of financial and legal aspects of risk selection preferred
  • Previous experience using Microsoft Word and internet applications
  • Ability to provide strong customer service
  • Possesses some technology knowledge of insurance system applications and data
  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends, if required
  • Team player and self–starter, highly motivated, and results driven
  • Ability to effectively function in a fast-paced team environment
