This role is open to CONUS, AK and HI, but SC is specifically an excluded location.
The Department of Counseling Psychology and Social Work, in the School of Psychology and Social Sciences (SOPSS) at National University invites applications for an Assistant, an Associate, or a Full Professor in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Rank is commensurate with qualifications and experience . The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record, or the potential for in the case of an Assistant Professor, of excellence in teaching and scholarship in their field and a commitment to serving the university’s diverse adult student body. This position is remote. This position works closely with other faculty within the discipline and administration contributing to programmatic strategies that ensure program quality, student engagement, and success. We are looking for a candidate who can take leadership of the clinical aspects of the program, including working with the school’s Professional Training Office.
Essential Functions
Candidates will be evaluated for their level of proficiency and potential (for excellence) in teaching, scholarship, and service. The main expectations of this position include:
Teaching
- Teach, with a focus on clinical courses, and participate in Final presentations as needed.
- Develop online courses as needed.
- Maintain pedagogical and subject matter expertise in the instructor’s field.
Create an inclusive and positive learning environment for diverse learners.- Ensure course and program practices align with compliance and accreditation standards.
- Adhere to the National University’s academic integrity policy.
Scholarship
- Maintain a productive scholarship agenda suitable to a teaching university.
- Engage in scholarly activities to maintain professional growth.
- Participate in professional development as outlined in faculty policies.
Service
- Lead clinical training development and administration of clinical requirements related to accreditation.
- Support and coordinate with school and program leadership on accreditation reviews.
- Collaborate and coordinate with Senior Director of Clinical Training and other internal stakeholders on appropriate data collection, analysis, evaluation, and dissemination of reports including the regular evaluation of the students’ clinical training experience quality.
- Coordinate and collaborate with CMHC faculty and supports remediation efforts for students who are not meeting expectations in their clinical training requirements.
- Maintain program level Clinical Training Handbook.
- Participate in curriculum oversight, shared governance, and the student experience.
- Serve on committees at the program, department, school, college or/and university level and engage in community activities that promote program outreach and university goals.
- Participate in program meetings and advisory boards to integrate best practices and strategic initiatives.
- Contact and collaborate with external stakeholders in the clinical process, such as practicum training directors and clinical supervisors, to ensure program standards are met and students are appropriately progressing.

Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities
Education & Experience:
Doctoral degree in clinical mental health counseling required; from an CACREP accredited program strongly preferred.
Licensed or license eligible as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor required.
Demonstrated training in telehealth required.
2+ years of experience in clinical training administration for an CACREP-accredited CMHC program required; experience as a Director of Clinical Training for an CACREP accredited CMHC program preferred.
2+ years of full-time and/or part-time/adjunct teaching experience in an CACREP accredited CMHC program required.
2+ years of full-time and/or part-time/adjunct teaching experience in teaching the practicum and internship clinical counseling courses required.
Curriculum Development Experience Preferred.
Special conditions of employment include:
