Position Overview:
The Assistant Manager for Payroll will support the Payroll Manager in overseeing payroll operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing of employee compensation and related payroll deliverables. This role involves managing payroll staff, ensuring compliance with regulations, and implementing payroll policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll Processing:
- Assist in the preparation and processing of monthly payroll.
- Ensure accuracy of timekeeping records and payroll data.
- Handle payroll adjustments, deductions, bonuses, and any off-cycle requests from client/internal teams.
- Review payroll discrepancies for long-term solutions and resolve issues promptly.
Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
- Review payroll/statutory reports to be circulated to Finance/BPOs and regulatory agencies.
- Assist with audits related to payroll, including responding to inquiries and providing documentation.
Team Management:
- Supervise and train payroll staff to ensure high-quality service delivery.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration within the payroll team and business partners.
- Coordinate workload among team members to meet payroll calendar deadlines.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback.
System Management:
- Oversee payroll software and systems, ensuring data integrity and security.
- Collaborate with IT and HR to implement system updates and enhancements.
Policy Implementation:
- Assist in developing and updating payroll policies and procedures tailored to the business objectives.
- Educate employees on payroll processes, benefits, and deductions.
Employee Support:
- Address employee inquiries related to payroll, taxes, and benefits.
- Resolve payroll discrepancies and issues in a timely manner.
Continuous Improvement & Other Duties:
- Stay updated on payroll best practices and changes in payroll laws and regulations.
- Support special projects and initiatives as needed.
- Support initiatives to enhance payroll services and client satisfaction.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in payroll processing and management.
- Strong knowledge of payroll laws and regulations.
- Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience in SAGE People - Desired
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong sense of team building.
