Work Location: All campus buildings where Dining Services operates or has catered events. Job location and schedule may change when Colleges is not in session (ex. summer & breaks).

About the Position  

Primarily responsible for the overall operations of the Coop's back-of-house kitchen area. This includes Assisting with food ordering, and production, and ensuring that all standards are met. This is a working chef position and will be responsible for managing culinary staff and a team of student employees overseeing all food prep and production. The Chef manager will work under the direction of and report to the Dining Services Executive Chef and the Retail Operations Manager. The primary work schedule for this position is Monday to Thursday 10am-7pm and Friday 10:30am-2pm.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in directing staff within established operational procedures
  • Oversight of all food production to ensure superior quality and safe food handling practices
  • Oversee and manage the production of all menu items and ensures they are properly rotated
  • Process all food product ordering ensuring the correct amount of product is on hand at all times
  • Assist in managing the culinary staff and team of student workers to uphold the goals and standards of Dining Services
  • Assist in enforcing compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards as directed by federal, state and local health department regulations, Serv-Safe, College, and departmentally developed standards
  • Assist in managing and controlling food costs and offer solutions when necessary
  • Act as primary manager on duty in the absence of the Retail Operations Manager
  • Work as the lead hot cook during busy times or when needed
  • Manage the production of In-house Grab and Go items and ensure all items are properly rotated
  • Inspect all Hot and Cold prepped items are properly labeled and dated

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years’ food service supervisory experience, including basic cooking in commercial and/or institutional food service operation
  • Serve Safe Certification or ability to obtain certification at the colleges expense within 3 months
  • Aller-train Certification or ability to obtain certification at the colleges expense within 3 months

Preferred Qualifications

  • Culinary degree
  • Work experience in a higher education environment

Special Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain PA Act 12 background checks
  • Possession of a valid U.S. Drivers’ License and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record check
  • This position requires working early morning hours, evening hours, weekends and holidays as needed.
