About The Opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is experiencing incredible growth and is seeking a Client Services Senior Director for our Transmission business line.


This position will service the company nationwide, working with private and public sector clients while providing strategic thought leadership and direction for SWCA’s Transmission business objectives.

What You Will Accomplish


  • Lead the development of SWCA’s nation-wide transmission strategy in collaboration with leadership in Client Services and our regional structure.
  • Sell the business across strategic transmission markets, including working with electric utility companies, transmission developers, and operators.
  • Innovate and enhance SWCA’s Transmission capabilities, geographic footprint, and integrated approach.
  • Ensure a pipeline of robust opportunities and fully vet all major prospects - including leading, managing, writing, and/or reviewing major proposal efforts.
  • Lead and/or manage opportunity-specific sales and marketing teams; tasks include opportunity identification, project development, and proposal and presentation preparation, and seamless hand-off to the project/program management team.
  • Annual planning and alignment of transmission business lines with overall corporate growth goals.
  • Develop teaming partners - both prime and sub - to meet pursuit goals.
  • Identify, lead, and support initiatives for enhanced business development performance and efficiencies for continued growth. This includes marketing and branding activities, website content, pursuit tracking, and increased sales efficiencies.
  • Provide business development mentoring across the organization, including leading national and regional working group calls.
  • Lead, organize, and attend conferences and support industry working groups.
  • Work closely with SWCA’s resource scientists, environmental planners, managers, and directors across the company to promote SWCA’s business interests in adherence to its mission, vision, and values.



Experience and qualifications for success


Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, engineering, environmental or biological sciences, construction management, or business development.
  • Twelve (12) years’ experience in business development and sales of environmental services within the transmission sector, with a focus on electric utilities, transmission developers, and operators.
  • Project management expertise including experience with siting, routing, permitting and/or developing transmission projects.
  • Ability to lead and manage large-scale programs, including projects with multiple stakeholders across various physiographic settings.
  • Deep understanding of transmission project cycles, from preliminary environmental analysis through long-term post-construction monitoring.
  • Familiarity working with the major federal environmental regulations (NEPA/ESA/CWA/NHPA etc.) and state and local regulations as they relate to transmission projects.
  • Industry contacts with regulated utilities and transmission companies and merchants, and regulatory agencies associated with these utilities.
  • Strong knowledge of electric power transmission policies, including energy security, grid reliability, market access, and capacity planning.
  • Demonstrated success in proposal development, client relationship building, and strategic market positioning.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with regulated utility and competitive transmission, including transmission line capital project development, FERC Order 1000 competitive solicitations, transmission line siting, permitting, construction compliance, and asset operation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. Department of Energy Grid Development Office programs including Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) Program, Coordinated Interagency Transmission Authorizations and Permits (CITAP) Program, National Interest Electric Transmission Corridor (NIETC) and related programs.
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams, including scientists, planners, and project managers, to ensure successful project execution.
  • Strong understanding of financial metrics, with the proven ability to develop and implement budgets, rate schedules, pricing strategies, and contracts.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop client management plans and market analyses.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence; attention to detail; and organization.
  • Working in a fast-paced work environment and desire to work in a highly collaborative team atmosphere.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Master’s degree in business, engineering, environmental or biological sciences, construction management, or business development.
  • Expertise in the environmental consulting industry.
  • Fifteen (15) years of experience selling environmental and/or industry-related electric utility/transmission services.
  • Fluency in issues of importance to transmission developers, have a strong understanding of RTOs and transmission markets, and have demonstrated ability to develop opportunities into successful sales and sustained growth.
  • Experience in the renewable energy market and/or other energy business lines (oil and gas, mining, etc.).
  • Proven success of recognizing and capitalizing on market trends that impact the business (e.g., new regulations, technological developments, competitor intelligence, etc.).

An employee in this US-based position can expect an annual salary of $160,160.00 - $226,720.00. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
