The Director of Cloud FinOps and Capacity Planning will be responsible to set the strategy and serve as a subject matter expert in the FinOps practice, cloud service costs, resource utilization, and analytics space. They will collect, monitor, and analyze inputs on plans from other teams and the business, assist with forecasting, demand planning, and make recommendations on cost optimization strategies such as reservations, savings plans, shutdown schedules, etc. They will be responsible for developing, maintaining, governing and supporting the cloud optimization practices for our cloud infrastructure. This role will be a blend of hands on, partnering with our finance organization, working with vendors, coordinating with other technical and business teams around their plans and setting strategy on future use-based savings.


This individual will be responsible for driving financial and operational planning and business intelligence for the entire cloud computing environment (across all flavors of the cloud). In this role, you will be managing the cloud capacity and utilization, ensuring cost optimization, and improving the overall financial performance of the cloud. The ideal candidate should possess a combination of technical proficiency, financial acumen and business insight. The successful candidate must have a comprehensive understanding of financial management, cloud architecture, and IT infrastructure. The role requires a strong leader capable of driving the teams to submit their plans and help them understand their usage impact along with the financial and operational planning and business intelligence for the entire cloud computing environment.


The Director of Cloud FinOps and Capacity Planning will design and execute capacity strategies, cloud growth, and financial infrastructure metrics. This role will also be responsible for communicating these metrics and strategies, as well as futures needs to the broader organization. The incumbent will work across engineering and operations teams to ensure consistent designs and implementations of capacity systems and operations workflows. This is a very hands-on position requiring extensive design and operations experience on multiple platforms with the ability to prototype and/or fully develop or integrate functionality in partnership with operations teams.


Responsibilities

  • Lead and establish the Capacity Planning and FinOps functions. Responsible for communicating and driving organization-wide Capacity Planning and FinOps strategies and managing cloud compute costs.
  • Define a vision, strategy, roadmap, governance model and execution plans for cost management and cloud tagging.
  • Function as a facilitator of capacity and financial infrastructure fundamentals, working with the engineering and operations teams to surface key issues and solutions for efficient and transparent decision making.
  • Forecasting resource utilization and capacity and establishing and maintaining a planning process to forecast project timelines and identify additional resource requirements. Builds and completes annual budgeting process aligned to company and IT strategies.
  • Using business acumen to interpret and translate goals into technical specifications, delivering thought-leadership of specific technologies, and driving technology change.
  • Works closely with franchisees and key business stakeholders understanding requirements, collecting feedback on services and driving continuous improvement plans, intervening for service deviations as required to meet service expectations.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required. Master’s Degree in Technology, Computer Science or related field preferred.
  • Over 15 years of technology experience with more than 5 years’ experience in a Director or Infrastructure Program Management role leading cloud technology programs.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with a wide range of audiences including technologists, executives, business stakeholders, vendor partners and IT team members.
  • 3+ years’ experience supporting business services running in the public cloud. Experience with the contracts supporting IaaS, PaaS and SaaS delivery models.
  • Extensive knowledge of FinOps and Capacity.

The base pay range for this position is listed below. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and budget for the open position and also may vary depending on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other relevant factors. This range does not include an estimated value for any benefits, bonus, or other incentives that may be applicable based on position. - The target annual bonus for this role is 25% of annualized base salary, based on actual company and personal performance.
