Job description

Wound Care Medical Director, Corrections

The Corrections Medical Director is responsible for providing direct care and overseeing advanced practice nurses and registered nurses who provide virtual consultations to practitioners treating inmates in corrections facilities. The position requires a highly skilled and experienced wound care certified physician who is team-oriented and has a strong knowledge of evidenced based wound care practices and strategies for achieving superior wound outcomes. 

The Medical Director is responsible for ensuring the quality and effectiveness of the corrections wound care program by monitoring and improving clinical key performance indicators and ensuring industry standards of care, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiencies are met.

Requirements

  • Provide oversight to Nurse Practitioners and Registered Nurses, ensuring adherence to licensure regulations and scope of practice limitations.
  • Provide high-quality virtual wound consultations.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with corrections facility physicians, state leadership, and Chief Medical Officers for corrections clients.
  • Engage in Quarterly Business Review (QBR) meetings, contribute to client engagement and reporting strategies.   
  • Spearhead the development of point of care educational materials and offerings for wound assessment and evaluation.
  • Formulate and execute strategies for nursing oversight, complex patient intervention, and overall quality of care.
  • Track patient outliers and devise targeted interventions to improve outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with nurse practitioner chart auditing as mandated by the Medical and Nursing Boards. 
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for corrections clinicians.
  • Guide the corrections clinical team in ongoing education, new initiatives, and personnel development.
  • Establish quality assurance metrics and engage in metric reporting to senior leadership.

Education

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Board certification in wound care.
  • Current and valid state medical license, multi-state licensure preferred.
  • Proven experience in wound care management and telemedicine.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience managing a diverse clinical team.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Commitment to high ethical standards and compliance with healthcare regulations.

·       Proficiency in English.

Experience

·       Minimum of 5 years’ experience treating chronic wounds in a hospital, outpatient, or post-acute setting.

  • Experience in leading clinical teams.
  • Experience in using telehealth technology and electronic health records.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Passion for improving the quality of life for patients with wounds.
  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
